It was Mother’s Day, Tom was driving his new car on the road for fun. When he enjoyed the beauty of nature, he saw a flower shop. There were so many beautiful flowers so he stopped and had a look at the flowers. Just then he found a little girl standing next to the shop. She was counting the money in her hand. It seemed that she was a little unhappy.

Tom walked to her and asked, “Can I help you?”

“I want to buy some roses for my mother. But I don’t have enough money,” said the little girl.

Tom smiled and bought a big bunch (束) of red roses for her. The little girl asked Tom to take her to her mother. When they got to a grave (坟墓), the little girl put the roses before it.

Tom stood there and kept silent. He then drove back to the same flower shop to buy some flowers. He drove down two hundred miles to see his mother.

My Experience of Cooking

Our school’s new cooking classroom opened.

In fact, I tried to cook at home before, but the food was not so good. This time, the school invited a professional chef (厨师) to teach us.

I remember that class, as soon as I entered the classroom, I smelled the cake. The teacher had baked (烘焙) the cake, and we only need to design the beautiful cream on the cake. First, the teacher showed us how to put the cream on the cake and how to make it look nice. Next, it was time for us to design! We squeezed (挤出) the cream into all kinds of shapes, like small animals, and flowers.

Then teacher brought some sugar, biscuits and chocolate powder (粉末) for us to put on the cake. Our group chose chocolate. We put on too much, but the taste was still good.

Can you imagine an AI chatbot (聊天机器人) competing with you in an examination? Do you think you could get higher marks than it? A new AI chatbot called ChatGPT recently passed the exam in a law school. Don’t you think it is crazy? The use of ChatGPT has got a lot of attention in the education world and there are many discussions about it. Let’s have a look.

If you type (打字) in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who got through many difficulties to sing among the stars.

Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT has taken the Internet by storm. It has won more than 900 million users since it came out in November, 2022. People can ask the robot to write stories and e-mails, translate (翻译) languages, and answer all kinds of questions.

Why is ChatGPT such an excellent robot? Compared with Siri or other chatbots, ChatGPT uses a much bigger database (数据库) for training. It also learns things by itself. For example, if it provides a wrong answer to your question, you can tell it the right one and it will make it right. The knowledge level of ChatGPT is similar to a college student. That’s why it surprised the world.

But one big problem with ChatGPT is that it makes mistakes or even gives wrong information. These are things that need to be done with.

1.Did ChatGPT pass the exam in a law school recently?

2.If you type in some key words and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime story, what will happen?

Summer is a time to enjoy a change from the school year. It’s a chance to work on different interests or activities that you don’t have much time for during the rest of the year.

We asked our readers what they would do during the summer. Most of them said they would have much homework to do but still have time to relax.

The fifth grader Alex said, “At school I’m really tired, so on summer vacation I can not only relax and read books but also go outside and swim. I’ve learned many skills during the summer vacations.”

Ben, a high school student, told us, “I want to sleep more and see my friends more.” Ben is now volunteering in a food bank in the day from Monday to Friday and then hang out with friends and family at nights or at weekends. He feels his life in summer colorful and meaningful.

But not every survey-taker said their summers would be right balance (平衡) of busying and relaxing. Some think they’re too bored. How bored or busy people feel during the summer depends on how old they are. Rosa told us one of the things she wants is “being able to drive myself wherever I want”. Older teens want to have paid jobs to take up some of their time.

1.According to the passage, Alex ________.
A.is a high school studentB.works in a food bank
C.is a primary school studentD.teaches kids to swim
2.Ben’s friends can hang out with him on ________.
A.Monday morningB.Thursday afternoon
C.Friday morningD.Saturday afternoon
3.In the passage, those who took part in the survey are most probably ________.
A.scientistsB.doctorsC.studentsD.teachers
4.The writer wrote the passage by ________.
