Shortsightedness(近视) has become one of the main health problems for students. It’s important to avoid serious shortsightedness and keep your eyes healthy.
Cut down your time on the screens. Nowadays, many students spend too much time on computer games or online classes. “They always make their eyes focus on screens for a long time. It may cause dry eyes,” said Xu Hong, an eye doctor.
Remember to relax your eyes. Facts show that people blink(眨眼)less when they’re looking at screens or reading books.
Try to see eye doctors regularly. Learn more about your eyes and ask your doctors questions.

Nowadays, people often go to another county to study or to work. Many find it difficult to adapt (适应), though. According to the research, up to 70% of adults experience homesickness (思乡之情) at some point in their daily life.
Almost anything can cause homesickness—a smell, a taste, even a color can remind them of home. Mohammed Barakat sent us a message on Facebook about his longing for “the smell of rain and green” during the Sudanese rainy season. Mari Damian misses “the smell of Christmas cakes”. “I feel a bit sad today because I am homesick. I miss the delicious plates of spaghetti (意大利面) with a special sauce my mother used to make. She is a great cook. But I work abroad and I have to deal with this kind of felling,” said a young man.
According to Dr. Susan Matt, who wrote a book about the subject, people used to see it as a dangerous disease. The ancient Greek poem Homer’s Odyssey talked about it. But the modern term (术语) was created in the 17th century to describe the feelings of Swiss soldiers, who longed for their homeland wind fighting elsewhere in Europe. They suffered great depression.
Modern technology can limit this feeling, allowing people to keep in touch with loved ones easily. Skype is a lifeline, because it can allow grandparents far away to watch their grandchildren grow up. People should not allow homesickness to stop them living in the present. I follow advice given by Dr. Wood: I write down three new things that I’ve been grateful for every night, as well as three things I’m looking forward to most every morning.
What about you? Have you experienced homesickness? What do you miss when you’re away from your home and family?

It seems to me that families used to eat more meals together.
Speaking of taking turns, all of us kids used to take part in either preparing the meal or cleaning up. Sometimes my mom would let me help her in the kitchen.
Now, I won't pretend (假装)our mealtimes were completely perfect. We used to fight all the time, and sometimes kick each other under the table.
These days, it seems like families have little time together, especially at mealtimes. However, I wonder if those families know what they're missing.

B.That's how we learned to share and take turns. |

I am glad to be your guest.
I would like to tell you something about myself. I have been a news reporter for fifteen years. I chose this job so I could travel around the world, but the job has taught me many unforgettable lessons. The work is sometimes difficult. I have seen hungers, wars and earthquakes, but I have also seen courage, hope and happiness.
In India, I visited a city where there were many homeless children. Some were as young as four years old. They slept in the streets and lived by begging or stealing. Then, a time until she found wonderful lady called Rosa opened a home for them. Within one year, she was looking after two hundred children. She clothed them, fed them and taught them. She gave them hope.
Another time, I was in Turkey after a terrible earthquake. In one place, I found an old lady whose house was destroyed. Her son was missing and rescue(救援) workers said there was no chance that he was still alive. But the old lady did not give up hope. For four days, she moved heavy stones one at a time by herself. She didn’t stop until she found her son. He was alive.
Here in China, I met a young boy who suffers from a serious disease. He had twenty operations(手术) and spent almost his whole life in hospital. I thought he would be sad, but when I met him, his smile was so warm and bright.
In life, we need role models that we can learn from. When my life is different, I try to recall these three people.
