You can remember the face, but can’t remember the name of the face. 1. But researchers say it is often easier to remember names than faces.

Researchers showed 40 pictures of strangers and a list of names to twenty-four people. 2. The result showed that the people could remember up to 85% of the names but only 73% of the faces. According to the study, led by the University of York, this may be because faces can be only remembered through eyes. However, names can be both spoken and written down. 3. When people meet famous persons, they also remember their names better than their photographs.

Rob Jenkins, a professor from York University, said, “Our study suggests that many people may be bad at remembering names. 4.” This will surprise many people because it is different from our understanding. 5. As a result, middle-aged people may feel embarrassed when they meet their old friends.

A.They may be even worse at remembering faces.
B.Many of us have had this experience in our life.

Having Fun “Growing” and “Stealing”?

Recently, an Internet game has become a new fashion among young office workers and students. People can “farm” on a piece of “land” and “grow’’, “sell” or even “steal” “fruits” “vegetables”, and “flowers” on the Net. They can earn some e-money and buy more “seeds”, “pets” and even “houses”.

Joyce interviewed some young people. Here are their opinions.

Harold: I don’t quite understand why they are so mad about the childish game. Maybe they are just not confident enough to face the real world.

Allan: I enjoy putting some “bugs” in my friends’ gardens and we’ve become closer because of the game. Having fun together is the most exciting thing about it.

Laura: You know, people in the city are longing for(期望) the life in the countryside. It reduces my work pressure. Besides, it gives me the exciting experience of being a “thief”.

Ivy: Well, it’s just a waste of time. Teenagers playing the game spend so many hours on it that they can not focus on their study.

Babies sleep up to eighteen hours a day. Mrs. Thatcher and Napoleon both said they only needed to sleep three or four hours a night. Sleep—No one can live without it. But how much do we really need?

Research by the National Sleep Foundation in Washington says that we all need eight hours’ sleep every night. Scientists have found that people who sleep for less than six and a half hours a night are more often ill than people who sleep for eight hours. Going without sleep also increases the chance of serious illness. Workaholics who sleep for less than five hours often die young, and do less well at work.

The scientists found that, on average(平均起来), adults sleep for seven hours a night, with 32% sleeping less than six hours. It also says that the idea that we need less sleep when we get older is completely untrue. “People have no idea how important sleep is to their lives,” Dr. Thomas Roth, director of the Foundation says. “Good health needs good sleep.”

“But not too much of it,” says Professor Jim Home of Loughborough University. “Sleep is like food and drink,” he believes, “You would always like to have a little bit more, but that doesn’t mean you need it.” Professor Home studied a group of people who could spend as many hours as they wanted in bed; after sleeping ten hours, they didn’t find that they could get up easily either. And people who sleep for more than nine hours a night die younger than people who usually sleep for seven or eight!
