Jane is seven years old and Billy is eleven. They often fight (打架) at home.
“Mom, Billy doesn’t give my book back!”
“It’s not yours. It’s mine.”
I don’t know how to stop them at first, but then I have an idea.
I give them some “punishments” when they fight. But those “punishments’’ are not really punishments—just nice things for each other. For example, when Jane begins a fight, she must clean Billy’s room. When Billy begins a fight, he must give Jane a hug (拥抱). They must do many things like this for each other.
I write these “punishments” on a round board. When one of them begins a fight, they must run the board and get their “punishments”.
Jane and Billy think this game is great fun and it works well. Now they get on (相处) well. When children do something wrong, we can do this kind of interesting game—to let them know how to be nice to each other.

March 2 is Old Stuff(物品) Day. You must have some old stuff around. And today is all about enjoying it. Because what’s better than finding something really great from days gone by?
It’s so easy to forget things you have. And that’s not just the things in your home—in the age of new information, we can have so many things easily. Today is all about remembering the things we sometimes leave behind.
We’ve learned to value(重视) what age can bring to things. Wines, for example, are more valuable and tastier as they grow older. It’s certain that old things still have their uses or charm(魅力). People today will pay a pretty penny for stamps, toys, video games, books, coins, and clothes of yesterday.
You can really get into the charm of old things by visiting a junk shop(旧货店). Another person’s old stuff could be your new stuff! Old stuff could become a great gift for someone else, or you could always send your old things to a charity(慈善) shop. If you’re free, you could turn your old things like old clothes into new ones with just a little change.
Today could be a good day to visit your older family. You could ask your grandparents to tell you stories about family history, their childhood and their youth. Learn about what was going on in the world when they were growing up.
Most of all, remember that today’s new stuff will one day be old stuff.

A Family Bakery
It’s 3: 00 in the morning. Angela is ready to start the day at the family bakery(面包房). Vincent and his wife, Angela, are its owners(主人).
Everyone in the family works in the bakery. The oldest daughter, Claire, is good at making cakes. Maria is the middle child. She works at the counter(柜台), and sometimes she makes cookies. Paul, the youngest, is 14, and he makes bread. Vincent says, “Paul has good hands for bread.” All the family work in the bakery, but the children only work there before or after school.
The bakery is open every day. The bakery sells cookies, cakes and bread. Mr. Martin is a regular customer(常客). He goes to the bakery every morning. He always takes the round loaf of bread with no butter. He says it’s good. Mrs. Salerno is also a regular customer. Every Friday, she buys two loaves of Italian bread and a large box of cookies. Her six-year-old daughter, Laura, always gets one free cookie. Mrs. Salerno says Vincent’s bakery is the best in the city.
