Some people dream of becoming an Internet celebrity (网红). They want to have fans to make money from it and to make people from all over the world know them. They want to be famous so people will buy their products (产品) or hire (雇) them to do something they love.
But why do they want to be famous on the Internet but not in traditional (传统的) ways? Becoming famous in traditional ways is hard. It needs a lot of time and money. If you are not beautiful, talented or lucky, you could spend years trying but get no results. But being an Internet celebrity doesn’t need a lot. And it doesn’t have to become a full-time job. They don’t need to work as hard as a traditional celebrity. It seems that they can get a lot without paying much!
Every coin has two sides. The more you get, the more you have to pay. An Internet celebrity may have to give up part of his privacy (隐私) and be attacked by Internet violence.
Now some of our students try to show themselves on the Internet. Do remember to protect yourself online. Or you may be in danger.

The way we spend our time can be like three “boxes”. They are the necessary work box, the voluntary work (义务工作) box and the happiness box.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary work box with things, like making money, taking a shower, eating food. We then fill the voluntary box with work. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This box gets filled with work like taking children to classes, cooking family meals. The two boxes are very important. If we don’t fill them each day, our family won’t run well.
However, we often forget to fill the third box-the happiness box that we fill with things that make us happy. Is your happiness box sometimes with nothing at the end of the day? Between doing all the necessary and voluntary work, time goes by, and before we know it, it is time for bed. We all have days like that.
This is why each day we have to try to fill our happiness box. I always fill mine by going to the singing class. And every time I leave the class, I feel much happier. This week, I had the happiness of taking part in a guitar practice. We showed our musical talent and played music for charity (慈善). It was a time of fun, friendship and music-making. At the end of the day, my happiness box was filled to the top.
Make sure to fill all the three boxes. Will your activities bring happiness to your life? Or are the other two taking all your time? Try to find ways to keep a balance (平衡). At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve done all we can to make sure that our happiness box is filled.

The oil-paper umbrella has a history of over 1,000 years in China. There are different stories about the umbrella in China. The most popular one is related to Lu Ban.
One day, Lu Ban and his younger sister visited the West Lake. It started raining suddenly. The sister said, “Let’s have a competition, before sunrise tomorrow, who comes up with a way to make it possible for people to visit the West Lake even on rainy days will be the winner.” Lu Ban thought it was easy. He collected some tools and materials and spent the whole night building 10 pavilions (凉亭) around the lake.
The next morning, when Lu Ban talked about his achievements and felt proud, his sister held something unusual in her hand. It could be opened into a round shape. What is it? After a while, he found 4. the object which is made of silk and bamboo could be opened and closed easily. Lu Ban said “You win. It was light, beautiful and easy to carry. And it can also protect us from rain.” So the umbrella was invented.
Later when paper was invented, people used much cheaper paper to replace silk, cutting the cost of umbrellas. To make the umbrella waterproof (防水的), people brushed tung oil across the surface. That was how the oil-paper umbrella was invented.
With the passage of time, most people now use modern umbrellas in their daily lives, while oil-paper umbrellas have gone into decline. But in 1990, Dai Gensheng, a local of Jialu Village, founded the Jialu oil-paper umbrella factory in order to protect and pass on the traditional handicraft. So far, the oil-paper umbrellas produced by Dai's company have been exported to 28 countries. In 2020, Dai set up the Jialu oil-paper umbrella experience center for tourists to learn about the traditional techniques and to make oil-paper umbrellas themselves.
“We receives nearly 600 tourists a day. And the center also attracts many foreign tourists. 5. 它给人们一个机会去了解中国文化.” said Dai.

Tim Burton is one of the most famous American film directors. His most popular films include: Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992)and Dumbo (2019). In 1990, he got a Daytime Emmy Award for his cartoon series Beetlejuice and in 1991 he got a Hugo Award for Edward Scissorhands.
Tim grew up watching horror films and cartoons. He read Edgar Allan Poe’s horror stories and he loved drawing. He also made short films in his back garden. After leaving school, Burton studied animation. Then, he got a job at Walt Disney Studios. He was a very good animator, but he didn’t draw in the Disney style. So he left Disney and started to make his own films.
One of his most successful films is Batman. At first, people were upset when Tim Burton chose the comedy actor Michael Keaton to play Batman. Batman is a superhero who is taller and stronger than ordinary men, and Michael Keaton was too short. At 1.75 m, he was in fact the shortest actor ever to play Batman. However, the film was very successful and everybody loved Michael Keaton as Batman.
One of Tim Burton’s most interesting characters is Edward Scissorhands. The idea for the character came from a drawing that Burton made in high school. Edward isn’t human and he has got scissors instead of hands. In the film, Johnny Depp plays Edward. However, his character in the film is not as scary as Tim Burton’s original drawing.
In one of his latest films, Dumbo, Dumbo the elephant has got bigger ears than the other elephants and they laugh at him. However, his big ears are an advantage. He can fly. This new film is more exciting than the old Disney film, but the CGI elephant is not as cute as the cartoon elephant in the 1941 film. There are some changes in the plot, but the new film is still as sad as the old one.
Tim Burton has directed many other films, including some of the best-loved children’s stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. He still produces films today, and sometimes he shows some of his drawings and cartoons at exhibitions around the world.
