All students have to face their own problems and worries when they are growing up.

There are three girls in the Smith family, Amanda, Theresa and me. I am the youngest. We live in a small town in Pennsylvania, the US. People often said things to me, like “Oh, the three of you, you’re such nice girls. Your sisters are so pretty and so thin! You’re really nothing like them.” That made me really upset.

At school, all of my teachers had taught my sisters. On the first day of school, they said, “Oh, the youngest of the three! I hope you’re just like your sisters. They’re such wonderful students.”

People always compared(比较) me with my sisters. So I couldn’t help comparing myself with them. Theresa was smarter, and Amanda was prettier. I began to work hard to be more like them. What my sisters did, I did, too. At last, I became the lead drummer(首席鼓手) of our school’s marching band(仪仗队). Both Amanda and Theresa had been lead drummers.

But last year, Amanda went to college, and Theresa went to high school. Now everyone knows me, because I’m the lead drummer.

Now I don’t feel like a Smith girl any more; I feel like myself. I’m proud(骄傲) of doing all of the same great things that my sisters did. But the best thing I did was to learn to stop comparing myself with them.

1.When people compared(比较) the writer with her sisters, she felt ________.
A.uncomfortableB.angryC.unhappyD.both A, B and C
2.The writer ________.
A.had the same teachers as her sistersB.had different teachers from her sisters
C.was taught by some of her sisters’ teachersD.was taught by herself
3.From the passage, what does the writer probably want to tell us?
A.To be yourself.B.To stop working hard.
C.To learn from the old.D.To do what others say.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been stuck indoors. Online classes and working from home mean a lot of sitting around on your butt.

We already know that if we don’t move much, we get fatter, we get heart problems and maybe we get diabetes (糖尿病). But new studies have shown that it could hurt our mental (心理的) health too.

A study of 1020 Brazilian adults during the pandemic found that about 30% of them sat around for more than 10 hours per day. It reported that people who sat for too long often showed more symptoms of depression (抑郁的症状).

Another study looked at children. It found that each extra hour of sitting time at ages 12, 14 and 16 led to higher depression scores by age 18. Eighteen-year-old people who sat most often had depression scores 28 % higher than those who were more active.

Scientists are not sure yet about the link between too much sitting and depression. But according to Mats Hallgren from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, “Sitting for too long can slow blood flow in the body, including blood flow to the brain.” It might also affect the growth of neurons (神经细胞) in the brain. And couch potatoes might do other unhealthy things while sitting, such as snacking on junk food. All these may lead to depression.

The good news? It’s easy to overcome (克服). Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said “all types” of movement might help, even light activity.

“It is great to exercise and play sports,” said Kandola. “But anything you can do to avoid sitting for too long will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.” The key message is just to move more, more often.

1.What might happen if we don’t move much?
A.We will be mentally healthier.
B.We will feel more energetic.
C.We will be happier.
D.We will get fatter.
2.In this study, how many Brazilian adults sat for more than 10 hours a day?
A.936.B.468.C.306.D.234
3.What might “couch potatoes” refer to in Paragraph 5?
A.People who don’t move very much.
B.People who love to eat potatoes on the couch.
C.People who don’t have enough blood in their bodies.
D.People whose neurons grow faster than others.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.18-year-olds might have higher depression scores if they are more active.
B.It’s great for people to go out for sports to avoid sitting for too long.
C.Too much sitting must affect the growth of brain.
D.Watching TV for a long time will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.

People around the world know LEGOs very well. These years, the LEGO Group are trying using recycled plastic (可回收塑料) to make LEGO bricks. They aren’t ready yet, but the company says it’s making big progress.

In fact, people who often play LEGOs may know that the first LEGO brick came out in 1949. Since about 1960, LEGO bricks have been made from a kind of plastic called ABS. Sadly, it can’t really be recycled, and it takes a long time to break down.

But since 2015, LEGO has been trying to make their products (产品) more environment-friendly. Three years ago, the company began making some LEGO parts with a kind of plastic made from sugar cane (甘蔗). Recently, LEGO decided to use paper bags only. And the company has also started to make bricks by using recycled plastic.

Over the past three years, the company has tested over 250 different ways of creating LEGO bricks from recycled plastic. Now, the company has found a way to make a good 2×4 brick from PET plastic, which is softer than ABS plastic and can be found in things like bottles and clothing. The only problem is that the company should think about how to make PET plastic stronger and give it better clutch power (离合力) like ABS.

The company believes that they can find more sustainable materials (可持续材料) to make all of their main products by the year 2030. Making bricks from used PET instead of new ABS cannot only cut plastic waste, but also cut pollution by about 70%.

1.Which of the following can best describe LEGO bricks made from ABS plastic?
A.Strong and firm.B.Recyclable and soft.
C.Cheap and familiar.D.Popular and new.
2.Why is LEGO working on making PET plastic bricks?
A.Because the company wants to show that it’s making progress.
B.Because this has always been LEGO’s goal since its foundation.
C.Because using PET plastic bricks can reduce pollution to the earth.
D.Because PET plastic bricks are much softer and cheaper.
3.What can we learn about making PET plastic bricks?
A.LEGO has found a way to make colorful PET plastic bricks.
B.It’s not necessary to put things into PET plastic to make it tough.
C.A lot of tests have been carried out and there will be more tests.
D.Children keep asking the company to replace ABS plastic bricks.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.LEGO becomes a leading toy company
B.LEGO works to make bricks from recycled plastic
C.LEGO recycles plastic toy bricks to protect the environment
D.LEGO makes the best of ABS plastic to reduce cost
