The Spring Festival is our Chinese people’s festival. There are twelve different animal names for each year. We all call it the Year of the Monkey, the Year of the Dog... and this year is the Year of the Rabbit. Before (在...之前) the day of the festival, people go shopping and clean the house. On the Eve (除夕), there is a big family dinner. After dinner, all the family stay up late (守夜) to welcome the new year. In the middle of the night, we have some dumplings (饺子) and watch TV. On the first day of the New Year, people wear new clothes to visit their relatives (亲戚) and say “Happy New Year” to each other.

There are four people in my family. They are my father, my mother, my brother and I. I often get up at 6:00. My father and my mother get up at 5:00. We have breakfast at 6:30. I go to school by bus. I often play football after school. We often go on a trip on summer holidays.

My good friend Lucy’s is from Canada. She is eleven years old. She’s pretty and smart. She is helpful at home. She can help her mother cook meals. She can clean her bedroom. Lucy has a sister. Her name is Lily. Lily is eight years old. She is young, but she can make the bed. The two sisters often read books on Saturdays. They love weekend very much.

Alice is my new friend. She lives in Australia. She likes reading. Her father works in a school. He is a teacher. He goes to work by bus. Her mother is a nurse. She works in a hospital. She goes to work by car. Alice and Ann are twins. They look the same, but they are very different. Every morning, Alice goes to school by bike, but Ann goes to school on foot. Every evening, Alice reads books. Her sister Ann watches cartoons on TV.

Birthdays in my family

I have a happy family. There are 4 people in my family. My mother's birthday is in January. We usually go hiking on her birthday. There are 3 birthdays in July, my sisters and my birthday are in July. My grandma's birthday is in July too. We can always have a good time, because July is in summer. We can go fishing and swimming. My father's birthday is in December, so we can go skating. My grandpa's birthday is in March. We can plant trees and fly kites.

Hello! My name is Tom. I like English very much. My favourite food is beef, eggplant and tofu. I’m very helpful at home. I can do the dishes, set the table and water the flowers. Today is Saturday. I often read books, do my homework and watch TV on Saturdays. What do you do on weekends?

My home is near a river. There are some mountains behind my house. There is a road in front of my house. You can see two bridges over the river. I like my home.

Mike is a boy. He is ten years old. He is a pupil in Nanjing Primary School. He has got a pet. He likes it very much. His pet is a parrot. Its name is Sally. It is two years old. It’s small, but it is beautiful.

Every morning, the parrot wakes Mike up at seven o’clock. “Wake up, wake up!” It is a good alarm clock. Then, Mike gets up in a hurry. He is never late for school.

On Sunday Mike takes his pet to the park. The parrot is very lovely. It can talk to the people. But it can’t sing. It can say “Hello” “Good morning” and “Goodbye”. It is so clever that many people like it.

One morning, Mike’s mother wakes Mike up at seven o’clock. But he can’t hear his parrot. His mother says, “Sally is ill.” Mike is sad.
