Jack’s Timetable

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand (泰国) . It is very different from Guangzhou. There are many temples (庙) in Bangkok. It is hot all the year, so there are a lot of fruits. Also, there are many rivers in the city, so “the market on the water” is very famous. You can buy flowers, vegetables, fruits and other things on the boats.

The best time to visit Thailand is at the end of March or the beginning of April, because it is the biggest (最大的) festival in Thailand-Water Festival. It is the beginning of their New Year. Before the festival, people clean their houses and cook nice food. During the festival, people sing, dance and throw water on each other. They think that water can clean away bad things and bring good luck. How interesting it is!

Elephants are the biggest( 最大的) animals on land. They like to live in family groups. There are about 20 elephants in a family group. The head of the family is usually a grandmother — the oldest female(雌性) elephant. Elephants eat grass and plants. Because they are so big, they need a lot of food. An elephant can eat up to 200kg of food a day and they eat for 16 hours a day! They eat with their long trunks(鼻子). But some people kill them for their long tusks and make a lot of money. Some people cut down many forests and elephants have less and less food to eat. They are in danger now!

Guangzhou is the largest city in South(南方的) China and one of the most important cities in Guangdong. Guangzhou has a long history of about the age of Rome, the famous city in Italy. The population of Guangzhou is more than 9,000,000. In the centre of city, the streets are very noisy and crowded. It isn’t very cold in winter. It seldom snows. But it’s quite hot in summer. Guangzhou is a very beautiful city. You can see green trees and flowers all the year round. There are many interesting places to visit. There are a lot of parks, museums and temples. The things in the shop are often cheap. So people like going shopping and visiting there.

One day Mike and his parents went out for a walk. On the way they saw a lot of people. They went up and had a look. Oh dear! What did they see? There was a donkey(驴子) in the middle of the road. It would not move. The cars and buses could not get past.

Then a policeman came. “Whose donkey is this?” he asked. “It’s mine,” said a farmer, “but I can’t move it.” The farmer and the policeman did their best to move the donkey, but it would not move. All the people watched and laughed, but the drivers of the cars and buses were worried. “We can’t move the donkey,” the farmer and the policeman said. “What shall we do?” “Give me some vegetables!” Mike said.

Mike showed the vegetables to the donkey. When the donkey saw the vegetables, it walked after Mike. All the cars and buses could get past at last. “It’s a good idea, Mike.” Said his father.

The giraffe is the tallest land animal in the world, with long legs and a long neck. It lives in Africa and eats leaves.

Usually, a male (雄性) giraffe is taller and heavier than female (雌性) giraffe. When it walks, it moves both legs on one side, and then both legs on the other side. The giraffe usually sleeps for about 2 hours at night. It’s funny that it sometimes can sleep for a short time standing up.

A female giraffe can have a baby when it is 4 years old, and it usually carries the baby for about 15 months. A newborn (新生的) baby is about 1.8 metres tall. And it can live to 25 in the wild.

Xian Xinghai was one of the greatest musicians in China. He was born in Macao in 1905. His father died before he was born. Xian Xinghai was very good at playing the violin, but he didn’t know how to play it when he was young.

He went to a music school in Paris in 1934. He died in 1945. In his short life he wrote lots of music. One of the famous songs is The Yellow River Cantata.
