Your Internet experience is ruined(严重受损的) when the speed is too slow—it takes so long to open a web page and the show you’re watching stops every few minutes. This can cross you.

But this could become a thing of the past. On June 3, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(中华人民共和国工业和信息化部) announced(宣布) that China would allow the commercialization(商业化) of 5G. This means major(主要的) telecom carries(电信运营商) will start to provide 5G services.

5G promises much faster data(数据) download(下载) and upload(上载) speeds, and more stable(稳定的) connections. This means that you will be able to download an HD movie in seconds and only experience a short delay(延迟) when sending and receiving data. According to the Straits Times(海峡时报), 5G will be able to improve many most modern technologies, such as driverless cars, wearable devices(设备) and entertainment(娱乐).

With a 5G network, the short delay in information exchange(交换) will allow driverless cars to run more safely, as they will be able to communicate in real time and avoid dangers. At the same time, 5G-enabled(启用5G的) wearable devices will keep doctors paying attention to the health conditions of their patients all the time and warn them at once if there’s something wrong. VR games will become more popular with 5G. The short delay of 5G will make the games feel even more real.

The Green Planet, a new documentary series (系列纪录片), gives us a new look at plants and shows the secret lives of plants.

Plants compete against each other to live. Each species has its own ways of defense. In tropical rainforests, different kinds of plants race for sunlight. The forest floor is described as a “battlefield” in the series as only two percent of the sunlight filters (过滤,渗入) through it. Some plants like Monstera (龟背竹属植物) spread their big leaves to reach light. But they are caught up in a vine (藤本植物) that tries to hitch a ride. Finally, they are both overtaken by a fast-growing balsa (轻木) tree. As the balsa has slippery hairs on its leaves, the vine can’t get a hold. Similarly, some trees make poisonous sap (毒汁) to protect themselves.

Plants also help each other and even communicate. In deserts, the roots of Euphrates poplar (胡杨) are connected. If a tree finds water, it will share it with others through the roots. Studies also show that plants use fungus (真菌,霉菌) in the soil as a way to “talk” to each other. It’s kind of like how Wi-Fi works. If a tomato plant gets a leaf disease, it can tell nearby plants about it.

The series not only makes us surprised at the plant world but pushes us to understand that plants are important.

4.Which could be implied (暗示) from this passage?
A.Plants can only survive through communication.
B.Plants not only compete each other but also help each other.
C.Plants in the tropical rainforests often compete for the rainstorm.
D.The nearby plants will not know the leaf disease if a tomato plant gets one.
5.What is the best title for this passage?

Let children learn to judge(判断) their own work. A child doesn’t learn to talk by being corrected all the time. If he is corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the differences between the language he uses and the language others use. Little by little, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people’s.

In the same way, children learn to do all the other things without being taught—to walk, run, climb or ride a bicycle. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them himself. We do it all for him. We thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him work out with the help of other children if he wants it.

If it is a matter in math or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such daily work? Our job should be to help the children when they tell us that he can’t find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must learn, how to measure(估量) their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.

Let them get on with this job in their ways. School teachers can offer help if they ask for it. Some parents and teachers are worried that the children might fail to learn something that they will need to get in the world. Don’t worry! If it is important, they will go out into the world and learn it.

1.According to the passage, the best way for children to learn things is by ________.
A.being always corrected
B.following adults’ advice
C.doing as other people do

A.encourage students to learn from eacho ther

A.teachers can’t correct students’ papers
B.teachers needn’t waste time teaching students in class
C.teachers should helpstudents improve their learning ability
4.We can infer(推断) that ________ from the passage.
A.students can face any challenge easily
B.students can learn a lot in the real life
C.students can grow up without others’ help
5.The best title of the passage may be “________”.

What time of day do you feel most alert (清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person? Or does your brain need a few hours to get going? A lot of research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we are best able to perform, according to the Wall Street Journal (华尔街日报).

When it comes to the human brain, many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help speed this up.

But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will rise early and work better early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better toward the end of the day.

Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it s better to exercise later in the day.

Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to get distracted. This is partly because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Research also shows that we become sleepy around 2 pm.

Finally, it is best to eat during our active periods. This allows our body to burn calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.
