James is a good student and he has lots of friends, but he also has a problem. Some older boys are bullying (欺负) him at school. James is very unhappy and he doesn’t know what to do about it. Here are some suggestions for him and other teenagers in this situation.
Don’t feel worried. It’s not your fault! Being bullied can make you feel very lonely and angry, but you are not alone.
Don’t feel that you have to hide the problem. You should find a person you can trust, and tell him. It might be your teacher, your parents, or even your friend’s parents. After you tell someone, you will get some support and feel some relief.
Speaking to an adult might make you nervous, but here are other things you can do. Some people express their feelings more freely on paper. Write a letter to someone or keep a diary. Include all the facts about what the bullies do, as well as when and where the bullying happens. You can use it as proof (证据) to show what is going on. And it is a wonderful idea to show your letter or diary to a teacher or another responsible adult. Then the bullies will feel very afraid if their names appear in a letter!
Also, don’t show you are sad and don’t try to fight with the bullies. You could get in trouble yourself. Pay no attention to them and just walk away. The bullies will soon stop.

The “59 smiles” on a smart phone by an old woman in Wuhan, Hubei Province in about six months tell a big story. The smiles are from the 59 people who offered her seats on buses.“Everybody can be a good citizen, because in many cases a friendly smile is all that is needed to build a better world.” says Zhang Yongsheng in an article on youth.cn.
The 69-year-old Wuhan woman has taken photographs of the people who offered their seats to her on buses. The 59 photographs are good memories for her. Some of the smiles are shy, some friendly, while others are like sunshine.

I used to watch him from my kitchen window. He seemed so small as he played through some tall boys on the playground. The school was across the street from my home and I would often watch the kids as they played during breaks.
I remember the first day when I saw him playing basketball. He ran circles around the other kids. He managed to shoot jump shots from their heads and into the basket. The big boys always tried to stop him but no one could.
One day, I met him and asked him why he practiced so much. Without a moment of hesitation(犹豫) he said,“I want to go to college. The only way I can go is to get a scholarship(奖学金). I am going to play college basketball. I want to be the best. My daddy told me if the dream is big enough, the facts don’t count.”
I watched him through junior high school and into senior high school. Every week, he led his school team to victory.
One day in the senior year, I saw him sitting in the grass with head in his arms. I walked across the street and sat down in the cool grass beside him. Quietly I asked what was wrong.“Oh, nothing,” came a soft reply, “I am just too short.” The coach told him that he would probably never get to play for a top team—much less offered a scholarship. So he should stop dreaming about college. He was heartbroken and I felt his disappointment. I asked him if he had talked to his dad about it yet. He told me that his father said those coaches were wrong. They just did not understand the power of a dream. He told him that if he truly wanted a scholarship and that nothing could stop him except one thing — his own attitude(态度).
He told him again, “If the dream is big enough, the facts don’t count.” The next year, as he and his team went to the Northern California Championship game, he was offered a scholarship. Finally, he was going to get the college education that he had dreamed of.

A road is just like a bridge between two places. The Silk Road has been a bridge between East and West. But the Silk Road is not a single route! It is a set of trade and cultural transmission routes. From the time Zhang Qian opened up the world-famous Silk Road during the HanDynasty, until the Yuan Dynasty, it enjoyed a history of about 1,600 years.
This ancient road begins at Chang’an (now Xi’an), and it reaches Dunhuang, where it divides into three, the Southern Route, Central Route and Northern Route. And then it ends in Eastern Europe, near the Mediterranean Sea(地中海). The Silk Road is about 6,500 kilometers long. It goes across one—fourth of the planet. (A) In fact, there is another trade road which is called the “Silk Road on the Sea” in the southwest of China.
The Silk Road was very important to both China and the rest of the World. There was an increasing trade between East and West across the silk Road. Besides (B) it, knowledge about science, arts and technologies were shared as well. The Four Great Inventions of Chinawas introduced to the West and Chinese also knew about the religions of the West. (C) In this way, languages and cultures developed and influenced each other.
Today, places along the Silk Road are great places of interest, such as the Teracotta Army in Xi’ an and Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu.

I am Peter Hodes, a volunteer stem cell courier (运送员). Since March 2012, I’ve done 89 trips-of those, 51 have been abroad. I have 42 hours to carry stem cells (干细胞) in my little box because I’ve got two ice packs and that’s how long they last. In all, from the time the stem cells are harvested from a donor (捐献者) to the time they can be implanted (移植) in the patient, we’ve got 72 hours at most. So I am always serious about time.
I had one trip last year where I was caught by a storm in America. I picked up the stem cells in Providence, Rhode Island, and was supposed to fly to Washington then back to London. But when I arrived at the check-in desk at the airport in Providence, the lady at the desk said, “Well, I’m really sorry. I’ve got some bad news for you-there are no flights (航班) to Washington.” So I took my box and put it on the desk and said, “In this box are some stem cells that are urgently (急切地) needed for a patient. Please, please, you’ve got to get me back to the United Kingdom.” She just dropped everything. She managed to help me get on the flight to Newark and got me back to the UK even earlier.
For this courier job, you must know that in that box you’ve got something that is going to save somebody’s life.
