Every year there is a Spring Festival in China. Usually it is in January or February. It is an interesting festival in China, So before it comes, everyone has to get ready for it. They buy many things in the supermarket. And they make dumplings. It means “come together”. Before the festival, parents buy new clothes for their children. On the eve(除夕) of the Spring Festival, all the family members(成员) come together. They often watch TV. And they give each other the best wishes(祝愿). Children get lucky money. They all have a good time.

My uncle and aunt invited us to Beijing to have a trip. So my family will leave for Beijing tomorrow. It’s five thousand and one hundred kilometers from my city to Beijing. It’s very far. We are going there by plane and arrive at 7:00 in the evening. We need jackets, sweaters and coats. But I don’t like these sweaters. They are too old. We are going to visit Tian’anmen Square, the Palace Museum, Summer Palace. I am very excited now.

In China, years have names. Each year has an animal name. Here is the order(顺序) of the year. The year of the rat is the first; the year of the ox is the second; the tiger is the third; the rabbit is the fourth; the dragon is the fifth; the snake is the sixth; the horse is the seventh; the sheep is the eighth; the monkey is the ninth; the rooster is the tenth; the dog is the eleventh; and the pig is the twelfth. Then comes to the year of the rat again. Li Ming is 13 years old. His year is the year of the rat. Jing is Li Ming’s cousin. Her year is the year of the dragon. Jenny is 11 years old. How old is Danny? His age(年龄) is between Li Ming’s age and Jenny’s age.

I’m Lucy. I’m 11 years old. I’m from Canada. I live in Beijing. I’m going on a trip tomorrow. I need a train ticket from Beijing to Shanghai. I’m packing (整理) my suitcase (行李箱). I want those shoes. I like them very much. They are red. Red is my favourite colour. I don’t want that yellow sweater. Because it’s old. Oh, I want my teddy bear, too. It’s my best friends.

I write three letters（信）. One letter is for my mother. Another letter is for my father. The third letter is for my friend，Peter. I go to post office（邮局） forstamps（邮票）. My mother and my father live in Shanghai. The stamps are two yuan. Peter lives in Canada. The stamp is ten yuan. I buy them.

Spring Festival is the Chinese New Year. When Spring Festival comes, people are busy. They clean their houses. And they go to shops to buy new clothes and food. On Spring Festival Eve (除夕夜), all family members (家庭成员) will have a big dinner together. For dinner many families eat the famous dumplings (Jiaozi in Chinese). Dumplings are the most traditional food. People will also watch the Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会) on CCTV with their family. Everyone is happy on Spring Festival!

Children like the festival very much because they can get lucky money from their parents and relatives (亲戚). The Spring Festival lasts (持续) about 15 days. People visit relatives and friends During the Spring Festival. Some people have a party. They sing, dance and have a good time.
