People eat different kinds of food in different countries. In China, people eat a lot of rice. Many people eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Japanese people(日本人) eat a lot of fish. They live near the sea and they can get fish easily. In the UK, people eat a lot of potatoes. They can cook potatoes in many different ways.

Some people only eat fruit and vegetables. They don’t eat fish, meat or any other food from animals. They only eat food from plants. Thy think food from plants is healthy. These people are vegetarians.

Mr. Smith had a nice, blue coat. He loved it very much, but his wife didn’t like it because it was old. She often said, “Give it to a poor man.” Mr. Smith always said, “No, I like this coat.” Then one day a cigarette(香烟) fell on it and made a hole in it, so Mrs. Smith said, “Please don’t wear it again.” Mr. Smith took it to a small tailor’s(裁缝) shop and said to the tailor, “Please make a coat just like this one. ”The tailor made the coat very carefully, then he lit(light过去式) a cigarette and made a hole in it in the same place.

Coronavirus (冠状病毒)

What is the Coronavirus?

It usually lives in the wild (野生的) animals. Its name is coronavirus. It’s very small——so small that we can’t see it. The coronavirus is very contagious (接触传染的).

What will happen to the coronavirus patients (病人)?

They may have a high fever and feel tired. They may cough and find it hard to breathe. They must go to see the doctor.

What should we do? (1)

The best way is to stay at home and wash our hands often. Don’t touch our eyes, mouths or noses. We need to wear a mask in the crowded places.

Don’t eat wild animals. But have more vegetables, bread and milk. Do more exercise. Sports are good for us.

When the summer holiday comes, the weather is usually very hot. Some children prefer to go swimming in the open water in groups. Parents are quite worried. It’s very important to make sure that the children won’t forget the safety tips. “It’s not safe to swim in the lake. You can swim in a swimming pool. ”parents often say to their children.

Here are some tips also for swimming safety. First, tell your parents before you go to swim. Second, you can’t swim when you are too full. Third, do some exercise before you go into the pool. Fourth, don’t swim for more than two hours each time. Fifth, if your friend is in danger, don’t try to help him or her by yourself. Do ask adults for help.

Today, around half of the world's population (人口) lives in cities. But when you grow up, cities may become more crowded. By 2050, 68% of the world's population may live there. What might your life look like in the future? Scientists say there will be some possible changes in the ways we travel, live, wear and have fun. Some of them are under study. Others are just ideas. First let's take a look at some cool future transportation (交通).

Supersonic airplanes (超音速飞机)

Supersonic airplanes came out in the 1960s. But they were too noisy to use. Now US company Boom will make better airplanes of this kind. They fly higher than usual planes. This makes the flight more stable (稳定的). Supersonic airplanes also are quieter and faster. Now it takes you more than 11 hours to fly from Beijing to Seattle. With a supersonic airplane, it will be just 5 hours.

Flying taxis and buses

Many companies are working on flying cars. Japan's SkyDrive is one of them. Its car has only two seats for a driver and a passenger. It runs on electricity (电) and flies about 10 km per charge (充电). It helps to cut traffic jams (交通拥堵).

Underwater highways

Besides “flying” in the air, we might also move around underwater. These highways are underwater tubes (管道). People sit in pods (舱). They can travel between the UK and the countries in Northern Europe in less than an hour. Usually it takes around two hours.

Long long ago, there were ten suns in the sky. In the centre of every sun, there lived a bird. Every day, they roosted in a tree after taking bath in the East Sea. At dawn, one sun would take a two-wheeled car to the sky. One day, the other nine suns wanted to go and play together. So they got into the car. However, they caused a huge disaster. Grass, trees, crops and forests were burned down. The rivers and the seas dried up. At this time, a young hero appeared. His name was Houyi. Houyi was good at shooting arrows. He decided to shoot suns. He climbed to the top of the mountain beside the East Sea. He took his arrows and bow, and aimed at the suns. Soon, he shot down nine suns. There was only one sun left. From then on, there was only one sun in the sky. People could live happily again.

Most children like watching TV. It’s very interesting. By watching TV they can see and learn a lot and know many things about their country and the world. Of course, they can also learn over the radio. But they can learn better and more easily on TV. Why? Because they can hear and watch at the same time. But they can’t see anything over the radio. Many children watch TV only on Saturday or Sunday evening. They are always busy with their lessons. But some children watch TV every night. They go to bed very late. They can’t have a good rest. People like to drink tea. There is black tea, green tea, white tea and yellow tea. People drink a lot of tea in China. Some Chinese people drink it because it is good for their health. Many people drink it because it tastes (尝起来) very good. People drink a lot of green tea in Japan. People drink lots of green tea in South Korea (韩国), too. In Vietnam (越南), people like to drink coffee first. Then they drink tea.

People drink lots of tea in England. Every afternoon, people drink tea. It’s the ‘afternoon tea’. English people like to drink their tea with milk in it. Many people drink black tea in the USA. In the South, people like to drink sweet tea. Sweet tea is cold black tea with sugar (糖) in it. Most tea comes from China.

It is hot day in summer. A lion is walking along a lake. He is looking for something to eat. He is very hungry. A duck is swimming in the water. The lion is very happy to see him. “Aha. There is my lunch,” the lion says to himself (自言自语). “Hello, Mr Duck!” “Go away, bad lion! ”says the duck. “I have good news for you.” “What is it?” asks the duck. “I don’t want other animals to hear it. Please come here,” says the lion. The poor duck gets out of the water and runs to the lion. The lion catches him and eats him up.

In China, spring is usually very short. It usually comes in March and ends in May. Summer is often very hot. It is from June to August. The hottest (最热) month is July. Autumn begins in September, and goes on to November. The weather can be very warm in autumn. Winter is from December to February, and it is very cold. You must wear (穿) lots of warm clothes. The best time to visit China is spring or autumn. In summer it is often too hot, and in winter it is too cold.

The seasons of the year in England and America are nearly (几乎) the same. But the weather in England never gets too hot or too cold. The seasons in Australia are different. Its summer is from December to February, and winter is in June, July and August. So when it is spring in China, it is autumn in Australia.
