An old lady and her cat

Mrs Black is an old lady. She lives with a cat. The cat is old, too. This morning, it sees a big mouse. It catches the mouse. Mrs Black sees this cat. She is very happy.

But the mouse is very strong and it gets out of (摆脱) the cat’s paws (爪子). Then Mrs Black feels very angry. She speaks to the cat loudly (大声地). The cat is very sad. It says, “Please be kind (仁慈的) to me. When I was young, I gave you much help.”

Jack

Jack was a famous American writer. He was born (出生于) on January 12th, 1876, in San Francisco, California. His family was very poor, and Jack had to leave school to make money. He worked hard in many different jobs.

Later, Jack came back to school, but he didn’t stay the school long. In 1897, he went to Alaska to find gold. He found ideas there for his books and stories.

He came back home and started to write. His writings were successful (成功的), and he became rich and famous when he was over twenty.

Jack was not a happy man. He was in poor health.

The best food for the brain(大脑) is sleep. If you don’t sleep well at night, you may not do things well in the daytime. Students need to sleep between 8 and 9 hours every night. To get about 9 hours of sleep, students need to go to bed at about 10 pm on weekdays.

Earth Day is on 22nd April. We should protect our Earth. In many places, there is not much water. We should reuse and save water. There is not much energy. We shouldn’t drive so much. We can take the bus or the metro to go to school or go to work. We should save trees. Trees can keep the air clean. We shouldn’t cut down too many trees. We should plant more trees.

Mrs. Jones was a teacher. Her house was not far from her school, and she often walked there in the morning. All the students in the school were very young.

One cold and windy morning in October, Mrs. Jones walked to school. The cold wind went into her eyes and big tears (泪) began to run out of them. She reached (到达) the school, opened the door and went into the classroom.

It was nice and warm there and Mrs. Jones was happy. But then a small boy looked at her for a while, put his arms around her and said (说), “Don’t cry, Mrs. Jones. School isn’t very bad.”

Helen Keller was a great woman writer. When she was a baby, she got very sick. After many weeks, the doctor said, “She is better, but now she can’t hear.” Her mother and father were very sad. After a few years, things got worse (更糟). There was no way for Helen to speak to other people. She heard nothing. She saw nothing. She didn’t understand anything.

Then one day a teacher came to live with Helen and her family. The teacher helped Helen learn (学习) about words. Helen was a clever child and soon she learned to spell her first word.

Helen was very famous. She was blind (瞎的) and deaf (聋的), but she found a way to see and hear. She helped many blind and deaf people.
