Long long ago, there was a bad king. All of his people hated him. One hot day, he was taking a walk along a river when he decided to have a swim in it. He was a good swimmer, but while he was in the river, he suddenly fell ill and was dying. At that time two farmers were working in the field nearby. They came over, jumped into the river, and he was saved. They didn't know who was until they pull him out of the water. The king was happy. He said to the two farmer, "Today you have saved my life. Ask for anything, and I'll give it to you. I'm the richest in the world." "Don't tell anybody that we have saved you," the two farmers said together.

The Grade 3 students at Sunshine Primary School collected a lot of empty(空的)bottles. In July, they are going to take the bottles to a recycling centre(回收中心). They are going to sell(卖) the bottles and buy some books for the school library.

Kate made a bargraph(柱状图) to show the number of the bottles they collected. This is the bargraph.

It is March 12. It's Tree Planting Day. There are many people on the hills. They’ re planting trees. People plant many trees today. Plants are important to us. They can make food from the air, water and sunlight. But animals and people can’t do so. Animals and people can get food from plants. Without plants, life will not go on. Plants make the air Clean. They can keep water from flowing away(流失). They can stop wind from blowing plant more trees and grow more plants. They will try to protect the trees, about floods up sand and earth.

But in some places people are cutting down too many trees. This brings about floods and sandstorm. Now more and more people know that plants are important. They will plant more trees and grow more plants. They will try to protect the trees.

There are some easy things you can do to protect(保护) the environment(环境).

· Plant flowers, grass or trees.

· Whenever you visit a park or beach, take away what you bring there—keep rubbish in a bag until you can put it in a bin.

· Turn off the lights, TVs when you leave(离开) the room.

· Turn off the tap(水笼头) when you brush your teeth. You can save(节约) someWater.

· Keep the doors and windows closed in winter to keep warm.

· Give your old books and magazines to a library.

· Give your old clothes to poor children.

· Don’t pour dirty water into the rivers or the lakes nearby(附近).

If everyone makes a contribution(贡献) to protecting the environment, the world will become much more beautiful.

John likes chocolates very much, but his mother doesn’t give them to him. They’re bad for(对……不好) his teeth, she thinks. But John has a very nice grandfather. The old man loves John very much and sometimes he buys John some chocolates. Then John’s mother lets him eat them, because she wants to make the old man happy.

This Sunday is John’s seventh birthday. On Saturday evening, John says, “Please, God(上帝), give me a big box of chocolates for my birthday.” His mother says, “God can’t hear(听见) you. Don’t shout(喊).”

“I know,” says the boy with a smile(微笑), “but grandfather is in the next room, and he can.”

“Early to bed, early to rise makes people healthy, wealthy and wise.” This is an old English saying. Children should have eight hours’ sleep every night, or they can’t do their work very well. They will not be wise. The body needs exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing ball games are all exercise. Exercise keeps the body strong.
