One day, Mike and Jack were walking in the forest. “We are good friends. If we meet a bear, I’ll help you.” Mike said. “I’ll help you, too” Jack said. Later there was a big bear in front of them. The bear thought Mike was dead, so it went away. Jack came down from the tree. With a smile he asked his friend, “The bear put its nose so close(近) to your ears. An old man lived with a monkey. His wife was dead and he didn't have any children. He loved his monkey as his child. One day, he put some small boxes in a room. Then he put some apples inside one of the small boxes. When he was doing all this, he asked his monkey to wait outside.

Then he wanted to ask the monkey to look for the apples. Before he went out of the room, he put his right eye to the keyhole (钥匙孔) to see the monkey. But he found himself looking into the eye of the monkey. Outside the room, the monkey was looking at him through the keyhole.

One afternoon just before Christmas, an old man sees a little boy in the street. The boy sits on the ground and cries sadly. “Why are you crying?” asks the man. “I lost a ten-penny piece(十便士硬币),” says the boy. The old man gives a new ten-penny piece to him. “Thank you very much,” says the little boy.

About an hour later, the old man walks backs home on the same streets. He sees the little boy sitting in the same place and still cries sadly. He goes up to the boy and asks, “Did you lose the ten-penny piece again?” “No,” says the boy. “If I could find my piece, I would have twenty pennies now.”

Long long ago, there was a bad king. All of his people hated him. One hot day, he was taking a walk along a river when he decided to have a swim in it. He was a good swimmer, but while he was in the river, he suddenly fell ill and was dying. At that time two farmers were working in the field nearby. They came over, jumped into the river, and he was saved. They didn't know who was until they pull him out of the water. The king was happy. He said to the two farmer, "Today you have saved my life. Ask for anything, and I'll give it to you. I'm the richest in the world." "Don't tell anybody that we have saved you," the two farmers said together.

Long, long ago there lived a king. He was very old and he had no children. So he wanted to select a new king in the country.

One day, the king asked his ministers to give all the children in the country some flower seeds and told them, "Who can plant the most beautiful flowers will be the king."

 A child named David planted the seeds and looked after them carefully. But day after day, no flowers came out from the basin. He was very disappointed.

It was time to show the most beautiful flowers. The children from all over the country came with their beautiful flowers.

The king walked in front of the children. When he saw the beautiful flowers, he was very unhappy.

Suddenly, he saw a child carrying an empty basin. He was very glad and asked the boy, "Why do you carry an empty basin?" The boy cried and told him the truth.

The king laughed, "You are an honest boy. You will be the future king." In fact, the seeds had been boiled.

A crow was thirty. He found(find过去式) a bottle with a little water in it. But the neck of the bottle was too long, and the crow couldn’t get the water. The crow thought(think过去式) and thought, and then he had a good idea. He put some pebbles(鹅卵石) in the bottle, and the water raised up. Now he could drink the water. What a clever crow!

Only day, John was back home after work. He found(find过去式) that his wife was shaking(摇晃) their daughter in her arms, she was only half(半) a year old. She said “Daddy”to the baby girl again and again. John felt(feel的过去式) very happy because he thought his wife chose the word “Daddy” to teach their baby. Two weeks later, the little girl cried loudly and shouted “Daddy” one night. His wife said to John, “Dear, she is calling you.” Then the wife turned to sleep.

A fisherman was good at playing the flute (长笛). He played very well. His friends and neighbours often got together to enjoy (欣赏) his music.

Then, the fisherman thought, “If I play the flute for fish, they will come to me too.”

The next day, he brought his flute to work. When he came to the river, he sat under the tree and started to play. He played very well, but there weren’t any fish coming to him.

The fisherman didn’t give up. He played the flute again and again. Still, no fish came to him. At last, he said angrily, “Stupid fish, you have no ear for music.”

Then he took out his net and started to work. He caught a lot of fish.

The net could help him to catch the fish, but the flute couldn’t.

One morning a fox saw a cock in a tree. He thought, “This is my breakfast.” He came up to the cock and said, “My dear cock! I hear you can sing very well. Can you come down and sing for me?” The cock was very happy. He came down and closed his eyes and then began to sing. The fox saw that and caught him in his mouth quickly and carried him away. The people in the field saw the fox They cried “Look! Look! The fox is carrying a cock away.” The cock said to the fox “Mr Fox, do you understand? The people say you are carrying their cock away. Tell them it is yours not theirs.” The fox opened his mouth and said. “The cock is mine, not yours.” Just then the cock ran away from the fox and flew into a tree.
