On Christmas Eve—the night before Christmas Day children are very happy. They put their stockings at the end of their beds before they go to bed. They want Father Christmas to give them some presents.

Mr Green tells his children that Father Christmas is a very kind man. He comes on Christmas Eve. He lands on top of each house and comes down the chimney into the fireplace and brings them a lot of presents.

Christmas Day always begins before breakfast. The children wake up very early. They can’t wait to open the presents in their stockings. Then they wake up their parents and say: Merry Christmas!

Do you know what Christmas means? Christmas Day is the birthday of Jesus Christ. When Christ was born, many people gave him presents. So today, people still do the same thing to each other.

The Lantern Festival is a popular festival in China. It is in February or March, fourteen days after the Spring Festival. People usually go to watch lanterns in the streets or in the parks. There are many lanterns. Children often play with little lanterns in their hands. They're very excited. Sometimes people can watch fireworks at night. They are so beautiful. At the festival,people eat tangyuan. In China, people also call it "yuan xiao". It means family reunion(团聚) and happiness.

Ben is going to visit his grandparents in New York next week. He wants to give some presents to them. Yesterday he went shopping with his parents. In the shop, he bought a blue sweater and black trousers for his grandfather and some good books for his grandmother. Both his parents thought they were very good presents. Ben was very happy.

On New Year’s Day, lots of people eat some food for good luck(运气). In Spain(西班牙), people eat twelve grapes at twelve o’clock on New Year’s Eve. One grape is for good luck in each month of the new year. In China, people often eat dumplings, tangyuan or rice cakes. Some people even(甚至) put coins(硬币) in dumplings. They do not eat the coins, but they want to get the coins for good luck in the new year. Japanese eat noodles on New Year’s Day. It is for good luck too.

The first Dragon Boat Festival was held in Hunan. Every year, people always have a dragon boat match. The dragon boat is quite long. There are pictures of dragons on each side. The front of the boat is like the head of a dragon. Each team (队) of the match has twenty members. Beside them there is a man on the boat. He beats a drum (鼓). It’s an exciting match, especially (尤其，特别) when they are getting to the end. The audiences (观众) beside the lake shout for their favourite teams. From this match, we have the name of the festival—Dragon Boat Festival.

This special festival has another name—Duanwu Festival. It has a story. The story is about a poet called Qu Yuan.

In the US, people celebrate (庆祝) Thanksgiving Day on the last Thursday of November. It is a day when they say "Thanks" for all the good things they have.

In 1620, some people from Europe (欧洲) came to live in the US. These new people found life in the US very difficult, because they could not grow enough food. The Indians (印第安人) helped them and they had a good harvest (收获) the next year. The new people had a party to thank the Indians for their help. This was the first Thanksgiving Day.

All over the country, family members gel together for a big dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Sometimes people have to get together from far away. They enjoy eating delicious food like roast turkeys and pumpkin pies on that day.

Many Chinese people have a good time during the Chinese New Year. It usually comes in January or February. Each year gets a name. It may be called the year of the Dog or the year of the Monkey instead of (代替) 1970 and 1980.

Usually there is dragon (龙) dance in the street. The dragon is a strange animal about 20 feet (英尺) long. It is made of paper and cloth. Men hide (藏) under the dragon, and make a lot of noise by shouting and laughing. There are always a lot of fireworks.

In England, people often talk about the weather because they can have four seasons in one day. In the morning the weather is warm just like in spring. An hour later clouds come, and then it rains hard. In the afternoon, the sky will be clear, the sun will begin to shine, and it will be sunny at this time of the day.

In England, people can also have summer in winter, or have winter in summer. So in winter they can swim—sometimes, and in summer sometimes, they should wear warm clothes.

When you go to England, you will see that some English people usually take an umbrella or a raincoat with them in the sunny morning, but you should not laugh at them. If you don't take an umbrella or raincoat you will regret later in the day.

It is going to be Mid-autumn Festival next Sunday. Like(像……一样) other families, my family are going to get together too. We’re going to watch the moon and eat lots of moon cakes. They are very nice. My uncle's going to sing some English songs for us. He's also going to tell us some funny things in Australia. Well have a good time.
