It is a snowy day. Little Tom can’t go outside. He goes into the kitchen. Mom is at the table. She has got a large album and some cards. “What are those, Mom?” asks Tom. “They’re postcards,” says Mom. “Collecting postcards is my hobby.”

Tom walks into the sitting-room. Dad is at the desk. “What are those, Dad?” asks Tom. “This is my stamp collection.” says Dad. “I want to collect something, too.” Tom thinks as he goes to his room. He has got some picture books and some balls. But Tom doesn’t like them. He opens his box. There are lots of model planes in it. Tom feels very happy. “Wow! Now I can collect model planes.”

Different people have different hobbies. Tom and Lily are my friends. We like different things. Tom is a quiet (安静的) boy. His hobbies are drawing pictures and reading. Lily doesn’t like these. She likes going out and playing games with us. Also, she likes collecting toy dogs. These are her hobbies. I’m different too. Flying kites is my hobby. I have got lots of kites from my classmates. One day, his neighbour saw him at work. He asked the old man, “What are you doing?” The old man said, “I want to make this iron into a needle（针）. ”

The neighbour was surprised because the piece of iron was big but a needle was very small. He asked the old man, “How long will it take you to finish making the needle?”

The old man answered, “I don't know. If I die before I finish it, I will leave this work for my son. And if my son dies before it is finished, he will leave this work for my grandchildren. Someday, this piece of iron will be a needle.”
