The Smarts are looking at a map of China. They want to visit many places during(在……期间) their winter holiday. Mr Smart wants to visit Tibet. He wants to climb the mountains and ride a horse. Mrs Smart wants to go to Hong Kong. She wants to do some shopping. Amy wants to go to Harbin. She wants to see the beautiful snow and she wants to skate and ski. Sam wants to go to Guilin. He likes the   mountains and the stones. He wants to row a boat. Tom wants to stay at home and play computer games.

It is on Sunday morning. The sun is shining. We have no classes. We are playing in the park. Some girls are singing and dancing under a big tree. Some boys are climbing the hill. Tom is drawing by the lake. Mike and John are swimming in the lake. Where are Betty and Mary? They are sitting under a small tree. They are reading a picture book. We are very happy.

Daming has a cousin. His name is Simon. He lives in New York. He likes riding a bike and reading books. Simon's family invited( 邀请 )Daming to visit America, Daming meets Laura there. She's Simon’s friend. She wants Daming to be her Chinese pen friend. She can’t write in Chinese, but Daming can write in English.

Do you know Big Ben? Big Ben is not the name of a man. It's the name of a big clock in London. This clock has four faces. So, no matter which direction (方向) you stand in, you can read the time on the face of Big Ben. The minute hand on each face is about four metres long. If you go to London, you may want to visit the Houses of Parliament (议会大厦). In that place, you will find Big Ben sits at the top of the clock tower. You will probably hear it and see it. The big clock makes such a loud sound. It strikes every quarter of an hour. Big Ben has been the most famous symbol of London.

Hello, I'm Lily. I’m from America. I live in New York. I know Beijing is very big and very famous. So I'm going to Beijing this winter holiday. I'm going to visit Tian'an men Square and the Great Wall. I like Chinese food. I want to go to the Chinese restaurants, My parents are going there with me. We want to go by plane. Can you be my Chinese pen friend?

In China, there are lots of interesting places to go. But I want to go to Hangzhou best. Why? Because Hangzhou is a beautiful and clean city. Especially, the West Lake is the place we must visit. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world, I think. And I also want to visit Harbin. It is white and clean there, but it is cold in winter. I want to go to all the places in China. They are all fantastic.

On holiday, Daming visited his cousin Simon in New York. One day, Daming and Simon want to visit the UN building. And Simon’s dad takes them to there.

The UN building is a very important building in New York. The UN wants to make peace in the world. Outside of this building, there are flags from all around the world. There are 193 member states in the UN. They make a big family. The UN building is beautiful, it’s tall and big. Many countries give presents to the UN. And China give a present to the UN, too. It’s a train. Daming and Simon wants to go into the building.

Chinese people live and work in many countries. So there are many Chinatowns. The biggest (最大的) Chinatown is in San Francisco. San Francisco is in the west of the US. We know Americans speak English. But many people can speak Chinese in Chinatown. They are Chinese. There's Chinese dancing there. People can watch TV programmes and listen to the radio in Chinese. That makes Chinese around the world feel like (像) at home. For foreign friends，they want to learn Chinese culture (文化). So Chinatown also spreads (传播) Chinese tradition (传统) to the world.

Many people like to travel by plane, but I don’t like it. Because an airport is usually far from the city. You have to get there early and wait for hours for the plane and it is often late. You can’t open the window. Planes are fast, but they still take hours to get out of the airport and into the city.

I like travelling by train. I think trains are safe (安全的). When you are late for a train, you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and open the windows. You can see many interesting things on your way. But it takes a little more time.

I also like cars. You can carry many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.

Peter wants to visit Shanghai. Grandpa tells him something about Shanghai. Shanghai is a famous city. It is in the east of China. It has got about seventeen million people. People like walking along the Bund (外滩). There are many old buildings there. In the evening, there are some ships on the Huangpu River. There is an interesting garden in Shanghai. It is Yu Garden. There are many shops near the garden. People can buy some presents there. The Shanghai Museum is very famous. You can see many old artworks (艺术品) in it.
