There is an unusual(特别的) student in a school in Kenya. He is Steve and he is 85 years old. Every morning Steve arrives at the school and sits down in the classroom. “I can’t read or write, and now this is my chance to learn. It’s very important to me,” says the old man.

Steve has to do the same things like his classmates. He has to sit at the same desk and wear the same uniform—a white shirt, blue shorts and black shoes.

“Steve is a very good student. He works very hard in class,” his teacher Eric says. “He is so smart. Now he can read newspapers.”

Joseph is 8 years old. He and Steve are classmates. Joseph says, “Now Steve is my friend. He tells me interesting stories about the old times.” Charles is in Steve’s class, too. He says, “Steve is very friendly. He’s like a grandfather to me.”

Steve really loves his school life. He says, “I’m old, but learning makes me young.”

An Idea Jar

We all stayed at home for a week because of the pandemic(疫情). My sister said, “I did this puzzle 10 times.” My brother said, “I read this book 10 times.” And I said, “We need some new things to do.”

Mom said, “Let’s make an idea jar(罐子). We write down the ideas for things to do and put them into a jar. When we want something new to do, we open the jar and pick out one idea.”

My sister said, “We can make up crazy dances.” My brother said, “We can draw pictures with our eyes closed.” And I said, “We can make a new toy for our cats.”

Soon, the idea jar was filled(装满了) to the top. The first idea we picked out from the jar was to make a toy for our cats. “This is fun. The idea jar is great!” we said. Our cats were playing with their new toys happily.

Beijing Olympic Games

In 2008, the 29th Summer Olympic Games were held(举办) in Beijing. This year, the 24th Winter Olympic Games are held in Beijing. Beijing becomes a dual-Olympic(双奥运) city. The slogan(口号) of Beijing Olympics 2008 was “One World, One Dream”. “Together for a shared future” is the slogan of Beijing Olympics 2022.

One famous venue(场馆) becomes a dual-Olympic venue. It was a “Water Cube”(水立方) in 2008, but it is an “Ice Cube”(冰立方) this year. In the Water Cube, there were many volunteers(志愿者) helping around in 2008. In the Ice Cube, there are many robots helping around this year.

There were many people watching the swimming competitions in 2008. This year there aren’t lots of people watching the ice-skating competitions. Why? Because we are still in pandemic(疫情). All the people in the Ice Cube are wearing masks(口罩), except(除了) Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot(吉祥物) of Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

An Adventure on Island

It was a sad day. Our ship hit(撞击) a rock this morning and we were sinking(沉没). We must swim for our lives.

Day 1: We were alive. We swam all day and all night, until we reached(到达) the land. Now, we must sleep and rest.

Day 2: Today we climbed a tree and all we saw was the deep blue sea and the hot sand. Now we must find food.

Day 3: Today we went swimming and fishing. We were not hungry but still thirsty. Now we must find fresh(新鲜的) water.

Day 4: Today we climbed a volcano(火山). At the top, there was a pool of fresh rainwater. It was delicious! Now we must explore(探险) more of the island.

Day 5: Today we walked across the island. There were banana trees and coconut trees.

Day 6: Today we had fish, fruit and water. Now we must have some fun!

Day 7: Today we practiced singing on the beach. There was a ship on the horizon(地平线), but it didn’t see us.

Day 8: This morning we were playing and singing on the beach happily and loudly, when a ship passed by(经过).

Then the ship stopped. The ship heard the music and came to rescue(拯救) us. Hip hip hooray! It was a happy day.

A Raindrop

One raindrop(雨滴) falls from a cloud. Two raindrops, three raindrops fall, and then too many raindrops fall. The raindrops run down a hill into a stream(小溪). The stream joins a river. The river grows bigger and bigger. It flows into a large blue sea. The sun comes out and warms the sea. Moist(潮湿的) air rises(升起) from the sea. It rises higher and higher into the sky and forms(形成) a cloud. The cloud grows heavier and heavier. One raindrop falls from a cloud. Two raindrops, three raindrops, and then too many raindrops to count.
