Mr White looks out of his window. There is a boy at the other side of the street. The boy takes some bread out of a bag and begins eating it. There is a very thin dog in the street too. The boy says to it, “Come here, good dog. I will give you some bread.”

The dog is hungry so it goes to the boy, but the boy does not give it any bread. He kicks the dog. It runs away. Then Mr White comes out of his house and says to the boy, “I will give you a shilling (先令).”

The boy is happy and says, “Yes.” “Come here.” Mr White says. The boy goes to him, but Mr White doesn’t give him a shilling. He hits him with a stick (棍；手杖). The boy cries and says, “Why do you hit me? I don’t ask you for any money.” “No,” Mr White says, “And the dog doesn’t ask you for any bread, but you kick it.”

Jim is an English boy. He comes to China with his father and mother. They come here to work. Jim comes here to study. He is in No. 5 Middle School. He gets up early every day. He isn’t late for school. He studies hard. He can read English well. He often helps us with our English, and we often help him with his Chinese. After class he likes playing football, swimming, running, jumping and riding. He makes many friends here. We are glad to stay with him. On Sunday he often helps his mother clean the house, mend something or do the shopping. He likes Chinese food very much. He likes living here. He likes Chinese students very much. We all like him, too.

I'm Tom. My classroom is very bright and clean. It is not big but it is beautiful. There are forty­six pupils in my class. We are cute and lovely. There are forty­six desks and forty­six chairs. They're for us. There's a TV on the wall. It can help us learn. There's a blackboard in front of the teacher's desk. And there's a flag on the top of the blackboard. There are also many pictures on the wall. They are useful for our study. I like my classroom.

I went to Beijing for a travel last year with my parents. It was a happy trip. There were any places to visit. We went to see the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and the Tian'anmen Square. China has a long history. The Summer Palace is old. The Tian'anmen Square is very big. The Great Wall is famous. And it's very long. We can't walk all of it. We took some photos of the Great Wall.

My name is John. I live in San Francisco. Last summer holiday, I went to Hangzhou to visit my uncle. I went there by plane. It was my first time (第一次) to take a plane. I was very happy. I sat (坐) next to the window. I looked out of (往……外看) the window. I had lunch (午饭) on the plane. I had some fish and rice. And I drank some drinks. I saw a film (电影) too. It was about a monkey. I liked it very much. I had a good time on the plane.

Hello, my name is Xiaoming. I'm eleven years old. I live in Haikou. There are forty-two students in our class. Half of them are boys. Lucy is my best friend. She is ten years old. She lives in Sanya. Last Saturday we went to the supermarket together. We bought a lot of food for our picnic. We ate some bread and drank some milk for our lunch. We were very happy.

   My school is very big. It has sixteen classrooms. There are three hundred students in it. I’m in Class 2, Grade 4. There are two doors and six windows in my classroom. On the teacher’s desk, there is a computer. We have twenty­five desks and fifty chairs. There’re thirty boys and twenty girls in our class. We have three teachers. They are a Chinese teacher, an English teacher and a maths teacher. We all love our teachers.

Lingling likes English very much. She works hard. She reads English every morning. She likes speaking English. She often listens to the radio. She watches TV only on Sunday evening. She likes dancing. But she doesn’t like drawing. Her parents like her very much. All the teachers and her friends like her, too.
