Mary is from Canada. She teaches English in China now. She knows a little Chinese. She isn't free from Monday to Friday. So she often goes shopping on Saturday. Today is Saturday. Mary goes to the shop. She comes out of her car and goes into the shop. “What can I do for you?” the girl in the shop asks her in Chinese. Mary thinks she can tell the boy what she wants in Chinese. So she says in Chinese, “A quilt (被子), please.” Then the girl goes to the back of the shop. “My Chinese is not bad. The girl understands (理解) me.” She thinks. Mary is happy. Soon (不久) the girl comes back. She shows Mary a cup.

Sam is seven years old and this is his first day to go to school. After school, he comes back home and he looks very happy. His mother asks him, “Sam, how is your school?” “Very nice. And our teachers are all nice to us, too.”

The next day, Sam comes back home again. His mother asks him the same question (同样的问题). Sam answers, “I don’t like our Math teacher very much.” “Why?” his mother asks.

Cats and dogs are the animals that are closed with (最亲密) people. But let’s talk about things that are different (不同).

Dogs talk by (用) barking. Cats talk by meowing. Dogs are like wolves (像狼). Cats are like tigers. Dogs move in the day. Cats move in the night. Dogs run and play. Cats purr and sleep. When (当---时) they see their friends, dogs wag tails (摇尾巴), When they see their enemies (敌人), cats raise (竖起) their tails. When dogs jump up with their front paws (前爪), it means they want to play with you. But when cats jump up their paws, it means they are going to harm (伤害) you.

My name is Ann. My father is a teacher. He teaches English in a primary school. He works very hard. My father’s birthday is on the fourth of July. My mother and I want to give him a surprise.

It’s six o’clock in the evening. It’s time for my father to come home. My mother and I turn off the lights and hide in the kitchen. When my father comes in, I turn on the lights. My mother puts a birthday cake on the table. We say “Happy Birthday!” to him. My father is very surprise but happy. “Thank you very much. Is today my birthday?” My mother looks at the calender (日历). “Oh, dear! It’s the fourth of June. I made a mistake(错误).” My father laughs and says, “Thank you for your mistake. I can eat two birthday cakes this year. ”

Today is Children’s Day. It’s Helen’s 12th birthday. Many friends come to her house. Wang Bing gives her a storybook. Yang Ling gives her a CD. Su Hai gives her a radio. What about Mike and Tim? They give her a lovely doll.   

It’s two o’clock in the afternoon. The party begins. They are talking and laughing. They are singing and dancing happily. Now, it’s time for the birthday cake. All her friends sing Happy Birthday to You to her. Then Helen makes a wish, blows out (吹灭) the candles and cuts the cake. They all have a good time at the party.

Today is the sixteenth of August. And it's Mike's twelfth birthday. So there are many friends at this house. They are having a birthday party for him. Mike has got many presents. They are a beautiful pencil case, a funny, picture book, a nice T-shirt, a VCD of Chinese cartoons and some beautiful flowers. Mike likes them very much. Look! There is a big birthday cake with lots of grapes on the table. His friends put some candles on it. Now Mike is blowing out the candles, and his friends are singing "Happy Birthday to you" to him. They are having a good time.

I’m Peter. My grandmother’s birthday is coming. It’s on the twelfth of December. She is 70 years old. Both my grandfather and grandmother are very nice. They live in Hangzhou. My parents and I want to visit them. We go there by car. I make a card for my grandmother as her birthday present. I am making it now. First, I draw some beautiful flowers on it. Then, I draw a lovely cat. That’s because my grandmother likes cats very much. She has a cat. Her name is Kitty. At last, I write “Happy Birthday!” on it. What a nice day!

It is fun to give friends something on their birthdays. Tim and Bob like to give each other funny things. On Bob’s birthday, Tim gives him a pair of shoes with peanuts (花生) in them. Bob says, “I want to give Tim something funny too.”

When Tim’s birthday comes, Bob gives him a big box. Tim opens it. In the box, there is a saving pot (存钱罐) that looks like a duck. The duck has a hat on its head. It is so funny. Tim and Bob both laugh.
