Today is Saturday. It’s also Teachers’ Day, Lily and Tom’s mother 's festival. They get up early in the morning and help their mother do the housework. They first clean the room and then wash clothes. And they make breakfast for their mother Lisa then.

It takes Lily and Tom a long time to make breakfast. They make a chicken hamburger and some salad. These are Lisa’s favourite food. They also prepare (准备) a glass of milk. They think it’s good for their mother. Then they go to their parents’ room with the food and drink.

Dad sits on the sofa and reads a newspaper to Lisa. There is much interesting news (新闻) in it. Lisa also thinks it is fun. They are very happy. “Good morning, Mum and Dad,” say Lily and Tom. Then they walk to their mother and say, “Mum, happy Teachers’ Day!”

Mum looks at the children and the breakfast. "Thank you so much!" Lisa feels very warm now.

It’s a fine Saturday afternoon. There are many people in the park. The children are playing happily. Two girls are playing on the swing. A boy is flying a kite near the hill. At the foot of the hill, there is a lake. Some boys are rowing boat. And you can see a man walking around the lake.

There is a house near the lake. Behind the house, two men are working. A woman is watering the flowers. The flowers look very nice. Some girls are taking photos near the flowers.

Look at that big tree near the house. Two cats are climbing up the tree. What do they want? Oh, there are some birds in the tree. They want to catch the birds.

Mary is a little girl. She is only five years old. She is not at school. She doesn’t know how to read or write. But her sister Joan is a school girl. She is ten. She knows how to read and write.

One day, Joan sees her little sister in the room. She is at the table. There is a pencil in her hand. She is writing. “What are you writing, Mary?” She asks. “I’m writing to my friend, Rose.” “But how can you? You don’t know how to write.” Says her sister. “Well”, says Mary, “It doesn’t matter. Rose doesn’t know how to read, either.”

It is Sunday today. The weather is fine. Bob and Jane are in the park. It is a big park. They can see many people there. They come here to play after a week's study. Some boys are playing chess on the grass. Some girls are singing and dancing. An old woman is reading a newspaper under a tall tree. A young man and his little son are playing with a toy car. How happy they are!

What do you know about the sea? Some people have seen it but others haven’t. The sea looks beautiful on a fine sunny day, but it can be rough(汹涌的) when there is a strong wind. What other things do you know about it?

Of course, the sea is very large. In the world there are more sea than land(陆地).

If you have swum in the ea, you know the ea water is salty(咸的). Rivers carry salt（盐）from the land to the sea. Some places of the sea are saltier(更咸) than the other places. Do you know the Dead Sea(死海)? It is so salty you can’t sink(下沉) when you are in the water! And fish cannot live in it!

It’s five in the afternoon. The children come back from school. Su Yang is playing the guitar. He mother is cooking dinner and her father is reading newspapers. Liu Tao is having dinner with his parents. He is very hungry, so he eats a lot of noodles and a glass of juice. Mike playing chess with Tom in the living room. Helen is reading a storybook in her bedroom. Mr Green and Mrs Green are cooking dinner together. Jean and Jenny are playing with their friends in the park near their home. Wang Bing is doing his homework. Nancy is watching a film on her computer.

Cindy is a new student. She is twelve. She is from America. She can speak English very well and she can speak a little Chinese. She is in Nanjing. Her parents are doctors. Cindy studies in a school near her home. She has classes from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays and Sunday, she often plays games with her Chinese friends. She loves China and her Chinese friends. Now Cindy is reading an Interesting book in the living room. Her mother is cooking in the kitchen. Her father is cleaning his car. And her brother, Tom, is growing flowers in the garden.

Tom and John are brothers. They live in the same room and they are in the same class.

One day they have a fight, so they don’t speak to each other for a few days. On Monday evening Tom is tired after dinner. He doesn't say anything to John.

John helps his mother with housework. Then he does some homework. When he goes to bed, he finds a piece of paper on the small table near his bed. On it are the words," John, wake me up at 7 a.m. ,Tom."

When Tom is awake the next morning, it is nearly 8 o'clock. And on the small table near his bed he sees anther piece paper. He takes it and reads these words," Tom, wake up! It is 7 a.m , John."

There is a rabbit and a lion in a forest. The rabbit lives in a hole (洞). The lion lives next to the hole. The lion is hungry so he goes to look for food. He sees the rabbit drinking water near the hole. "Oh, there is my food!" The lion runs to the rabbit. The rabbit is afraid of the lion. She runs quickly into her hole.

The lion can’t get into the hole. He says to the rabbit, “I don't eat rabbits.” The rabbit is very happy when she hears this, so she goes out of her hole again. The lion eats her at once.

When did people start to use fire? No one knows but we know it was a long time ago.

At first, people only ate raw (生的) meat. When they started to use fire, they began to cook meat. Cooking meat on a fire made it tasty, healthy and safe, so people become stronger. Long ago, people lived in cold and wet caves. A good fire can make them warm and dry.

Fire was a great thing, but fire can also be very dangerous. Don't play with fire and when you see a fire, tell an adult.
