学进去

Three years ago, Jack came to live in Guangzhou, China with his parents. At that time, he lived in Australia and life was not the same at all.

When he was in Australia, Jack lived on a big farm in the countryside. Jack’s father didn’t grow any fruits or vegetables on the farm. Instead(取而代之), he grew lots of grass there. Because he had many cows and sheep on his farm. Every day, Jack had much work to do. He woke up at 5 a.m. and helped his father milk the cows. Then he cut the fresh grass, feed the cows, shear the sheep and put the wool(羊毛) into bags. Jack was a good helper for his parents. He was always busy but he never felt tired. He really enjoyed the life in the country.

But now Jack lives in Guangzhou, a big and modern city. He moved here because his father got a new job in Guangzhou. Jack goes to a big international(国际) school in Guangzhou. But he doesn’t like the life here. Every day he has to take a bus to school. On the bus, he can’t even get a seat because usually there are so many people. The bus is usually crowded and uncomfortable. The traffic is very heavy and there are so many cars on the streets. It is very noisy too. Sometimes he can’t go to sleep at night because of that. Jack is busy too, because he has so much homework. He felt tired and unhappy about his life in Guangzhou. He misses the busy life on the farm in Australia.

Ten years ago, my school was small and old. It had only one building and there were no libraries or gyms in it. Students had PE lessons in an old playground. And there weren’t many trees or flowers in the school. But there are great changes now. There is a new building near the old one. The classrooms in it are bigger and brighter. My school has a new library,too. Students can read different kinds of books there. There are lots of trees and flowers near the new gym. The school looks more beautiful.

Little Tom is a naughty boy. He doesn't like school very much. He likes playing games at home.

Last Monday Tom's parents went out for a trip. Little Tom didn't want to go to school. He got up late. He had an egg and some bread for breakfast. Then he wanted to play computer games at home.

But first he called the teacher. He pretended(假装) to be his father and said in a low voice, "Hello! Is that Tom's teacher speaking? My little Tom has a bad cold today. The doctor says he has to stay in bed. So he can't go to school today. He wants me to ask you for a day's leave."

The teacher was very surprised. It was not like a man's voice. That sounds like Tom. So she asked, "Who is that speaking?" "It's my father, Madam," answered Tom.

Last week Mary went to London. She didn’t know London very well, and she lost her way. Suddenly, she saw a man near a bus stop. “I can ask him the way,” she said to herself. “Excuse me,” she said. “Can you tell me the way to King Street, please?” The man smiled pleasantly. He was a tourist. Then he put his hand into his pocket, and took out a phrasebook（短语手册）. He opened the book and found a phrase. He read the phrase slowly. “I am sorry,” he said,  “I do not speak English.”

Mr Brown lived in a small town before, but he works in a big city now. So he moved there with his wife and two children three years ago.

One day, Mr Brown took his car out and washed it. When a friend came,the friend stopped and looked at the car for a minute. Then Mr Brown stopped and looked at him. The friend said, “That’s a nice car. Is it yours?” “Sometimes,” Mr Brown answered. The friend was surprised. “Sometimes?” he said. “What do you mean? ” Mr Brown answered slowly, “Well, when there’s a party in the town, my daughter, Jean drives it. When there’s a football game, it’s my son Joe’s turn. When I have washed it and it looks really nice and clean,my wife Linda use it. And when it needs cleaning, it’s mine.”
