Children in America like Halloween very much.

On the 31st of October, they put on special clothes in the evening. Sometimes they dress like witches and ghosts. Sometimes they dress like kings and queens. They go to their neighbours’ houses and knock at the doors. The neighbours open the door. The children say, “Trick or treat?” And the neighbours give them chocolate or some fruit.

Sometimes people don’t give the children any food. Then they play a trick on them. They may put soap on their windows.

Children like this special festival. They like their bags of sweets.

My name is Xiaoming. I'm from China but now I live in London. There is a very large Chinatown in London. I went there for the Spring Festival with my grandparents. At night we saw a lion dance in the street. The lion was red and gold. There were beautiful lights everywhere. There was music, too. We had a great time. I think the Spring Festival is so great for all Chinese.

Mid-Autumn Festival

In Asia, many people celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It’s usually in September or October.

On that holiday, children make beautiful lanterns and carry them to play. The lanterns have different shapes. There are pig lanterns, fish lanterns, lion lanterns and so on.

People usually watch the moon and eat moon cakes in the evening. They believe that moon cakes mean good luck. The moon cakes also have different shapes. But most of them are round.

Today is Mid-Autumn Festival. Su Hai and her twin sister are watching the moon. Their parents are eating the moon cakes. Su Hai’s cousin, Andy, is playing with a fish lantern. They are having a good time.

The Whites like to go out for a trip on weekends. Last Sunday they went to the Beihai Park. Tom and Mike got up very early in the morning. Tom put on a shirt and shorts, and Mike put on a T-shirt and shorts. They also put on their sunglasses. After they helped their mother do the housework, they put bread, meat, eggs and some drinks in a basket and carried it to the car. Mrs White also took four apples with her. The little dog was running after her. It wanted to go with them, too. They were all very happy.

Hello! I'm Mary. My hobby is taking pictures. I often take pictures at the weekend. I've got many pictures. I like the picture of Halloween best. Because Halloween is my favourite festival. It's the night of the last day of October. At Halloween, we often make pumpkin lanterns（南瓜灯）. And we eat pumpkin pies（南瓜馅饼）and pumpkin bread. At Halloween, we have parties. We dress up as（装扮成）animals, monsters or famous people. And we ask for sweets. I will dress up as a monster this year. I will have a good time at Halloween.

New Year's Day is coming. The students want to make presents for their families and friends. Mr Chen is helping them. Jill wants to make a crown. It's for her little cousin. She needs a pair of scissors. Tom wants to make a toy plane for his brother. He likes playing with toy planes. Alice and Mary want to make a model house. It's for Peter.
