Can animals be made to work for us? Some scientists think that one day animals may be taught to do a number of simple jobs. They say that in a film or on TV, we may see elephants, monkeys, dogs, bears, or other animals doing a lot of things. If you watch carefully, you may find that those animals are always given something to eat in return (回报) for doing them. The scientists say that many different animals may be taught to do a number of simple jobs if they will get something in return. Of course, as we know, dogs can be used to guard a house, and elephants can be used to do some heavy jobs. And we can also teach animals to work in factories. For example, apes (猿) have been used in America to help make cars, and scientists believe that these large apes may get in crops and even drive trains one day.

I have an e-friend. His name is Nick Brown. He is studying in Class 1, Grade 7.
He is a nice boy. He has short hair and small eyes. He wears a pair of glasses. He likes singing, but he doesn’t sing well. He loves basketball, but he can’t run fast. So he seldom wins the matches, but he really enjoys it. He is interested in playing computer games and he spends a lot of his free time playing them. I don’t think it’s good for his eyes. But he often says, “I want to be a game designer when I grow up.”
Nick’s favorite festival is the Chinese New Year. Do you know why? Because he can get some red packets from his grandparents, his parents and his relatives. Also he can have a long holiday. He can play lots of games during the holidays.
On weekdays, Nick works very hard. He listens to the teachers carefully. He is good at his lessons. All the teachers and students like him.

Lulu has a green ball and a red ball. She finds the red one under her bed, but she can’t find the green one.
“Where’s my green ball, Dad?” she asks.
“It’s in the box next to the sofa!” Dad says.

I’m going to leave my primary school soon. I feel very sad to say goodbye to my teachers and classmates. They helped me a lot. Five years ago, I spoke only very little Chinese. Now I can speak a lot more. I want to say thank you to all of them. And I’m going to give them some gifts. Li Ting likes playing the piano. I will give her a piano music CD. Drawing pictures is Yan Xue’s hobby. I will buy her some new crayons. Wang Jing loves model planes, so I want to make a paper plane for him. My teacher Linlin is interested in reading books. So I will buy her a book about Chinese culture. I hope they will like the gifts.
I will never forget our time together. Best wishes to all of you—my dear teachers and classmates!

Hi Jerry, Did you have a good day? I just finished a meal with my family and thought of you. Early this morning, we went swimming. We do that every Saturday. After that my father wanted to have a lunch buffet (自助午餐) but we found that it takes nine hundred dollars for five people! Also, Mum said it’s not good to eat too much. Dim sum (点心) only takes five hundred dollars for all of us, so we had that for lunch instead (代替). Later, Mum wanted to show me how to choose fresh food so we went to the wet market. We got some prawns (对虾), vegetables, beef and noodles to make dinner. We spent eighty-five dollars and ninety cents. That afternoon, we had a birthday feast for my father. We cooked a lot because my father can eat like a horse! Mum is teaching me a lot about cooking. She’s the best cook! Would you like to try our cooking? Visit us soon! Take care. Tim |
