Qian Xuesen was born in Shanghai on December 11,1911. He is known as the father of China’s space program (航天计划).When he was 24 years old, Qian went to America for further (更进一步的) studies. In 1955, he came back to China though the American government tried to stop him. Then, he devoted himself to science, especially to the space program. Mo Yan is a very famous Chinese writer. He was born in 1955 in Shandong. In 1976, he joined the PLA (中国人民解放军). He once worked as a librarian, a teacher and even a farmer.

He started writing in 1976. Dry River, Autumn Stream and Folk Music were his early works. In 1997, Mo Yan stopped working in the army, began to write for newspapers, and also wrote stories for movies and TV. From then on, he wrote many books and won a lot of prizes. At the same time, many of Mo Yan’s stories were put into movies. All these made Mo Yan become one of the richest writers in China.

In 2012, Mo Yan won the world’s famous prize for writing, the Nobel Prize. This is the biggest hit news for China because Mo Yan is the first Chinese to win such a great prize. Then Mo Yan became the world-famous writer.

Charlie Chaplin was born in London on April 16th, 1889. His parents were music hall actors. The Chaplin family were very poor, and life was difficult in London. Little Charlie had to do his mother’s job in the theatre when she was ill.

When he was only 17 years old, Chaplin got his first real job working as an actor. What he did was to do silly things to make people laugh in the theatre. Seven years later he went to the USA. And over the next four years, he made his own way of art. He made himself a homeless gentleman. And then he became very popular.

From the 1920s to the 1950s, Chaplin made his most famous films. Many of his films told about the poor life and hard time of the working people during that time.

When he was 83 years old, he won his only Oscar for a film music he wrote. He was named Sir Charlie Chaplin(卓别林爵士) when he was 85. Charlie Chaplin died in Switzerland on December 25th, 1977.
