Elephants are the biggest( 最大的) animals on land. They like to live in family groups. There are about 20 elephants in a family group. The head of the family is usually a grandmother — the oldest female(雌性) elephant. Elephants eat grass and plants. Because they are so big, they need a lot of food. An elephant can eat up to 200kg of food a day and they eat for 16 hours a day! They eat with their long trunks(鼻子). But some people kill them for their long tusks and make a lot of money. Some people cut down many forests and elephants have less and less food to eat. They are in danger now!

The population of Guangzhou is more than 9,000,000. In the centre of city, the streets are very noisy and crowded. It isn’t very cold in winter. It seldom snows. But it’s quite hot in summer. Guangzhou is a very beautiful city. You can see green trees and flowers all the year round. There are many interesting places to visit. There are a lot of parks, museums and temples. The things in the shop are often cheap. So people like going shopping and visiting there.

One day Mike and his parents went out for a walk. On the way they saw a lot of people. They went up and had a look. Oh dear! What did they see? There was a donkey(驴子) in the middle of the road. It would not move. The cars and buses could not get past.

Then a policeman came. “Whose donkey is this?” he asked. “It’s mine,” said a farmer, “but I can’t move it.” The farmer and the policeman did their best to move the donkey, but it would not move. All the people watched and laughed, but the drivers of the cars and buses were worried. “We can’t move the donkey,” the farmer and the policeman said. “What shall we do?” “Give me some vegetables!” Mike said.

Mike showed the vegetables to the donkey. When the donkey saw the vegetables, it walked after Mike. All the cars and buses could get past at last. “It’s a good idea, Mike.” Said his father.
