Animals are our friends. But now many animals are in danger because of people’s activities. For example, their living places become smaller because cities develop (发展) and there are more and more people. They don’t have enough (足够的) places to live in or enough food to eat. What’s more, people kill(杀死)the animals for their fur, teeth and meat.

People should protect (保护) the animals, or those animals will disappear forever. People should build some reserves(保护区),so that animals can live freely. And people should not kill the animal sin danger. We should also do something to make the world cleaner. Fresh air, clean water and green grass are all important to animals.

A starfish looks like a star. Most of the starfish have five arms. Some even have more. There is an eye at the end of each arm. The starfish has eyes as many as arms. If a starfish loses one arm, it will grow a new one. If you cut a starfish into two parts (部分), each part will grow into a new starfish. Starfish are not real fish. They are not good to eat. Dry ones are very pretty. People take the dry starfish home and decorate their houses with them.

Whales are one of the most wonderful animals, and live in all oceans of the world. The funny thing about whales is that they are descendants (后代) of land-living animals. And they got back to water after living for millions of years on land.

Blue whales are the biggest animals in the world, about 29 metres long and as tall as a 9-storey (层) building. They are as heavy as 190 tons, and eat about 4 tons of food a day.

A baby whale, or called a whale calf (幼崽), has hair fur, just like most of the 4-foot animals on land. But it will have no hair when it grows up, which will help to swim better.

Whales travel very far each year, especially grey whales. They can travel as far as 4,000 km each year. They usually swim in groups.

A mother whale usually gives birth to a baby whale every 1 to 3 years, and feeds its baby with milk. A whale calf usually can swim when it is born. But a mother whale takes care of its baby for about a year, feeding it and keeping it safe.

Because of human destruction (破坏) and other factors (因素), the endangered animals on the earth are getting fewer and fewer.

The tiger, the world’s largest cat, is close to extinction (灭绝). There are only about 6,600 of them in the world. More than 150 bird species (种类) have died out since 1500.

World Animal Day is coming near. What should we do to protect animals? First, we should raise people’s awareness (意识) to protect animals and our environment. We should call on (号召) people to protect animals. Second, we must take some measures (措施) to protect animals effectively (有效地). Third, I think that we should do more to protect animals. Because we are a family, everyone should get together to protect animals.
