The Spring Festival is a big day in China. It’s usually in January or February. During(在……期间) the festival, people usually clean their houses. And people often go to the flower market(市场). They buy some flowers to make their houses beautiful. At this festival, families usually get together. Some families have a big family dinner at home. Some families have dinner at the restaurant(餐馆). People wear new clothes. And children can get lucky money(压岁钱) from parents. They love this festival. They have new clothes, great food and lucky money. And they don’t go to school. They really have a good time at the Spring Festival.

Hi, I’m Sally. Today is Sunday, June 1st. It’s my birthday. I’m ten years old now. It’s 10:30 in the morning. Dad is going shopping now. He is buying some story books for me. Mum is in the kitchen. She’s cooking. Grandma is in the kitchen, too. She is washing some apples. Grandpa is a painter. He is drawing a beautiful picture for me in the study. It’s a picture of a cute rabbit. I am watching an interesting cartoon on TV with my good friend Mary and Helen in the living room.

My grandfather was born in June. Today is his birthday. In the morning, my family go fishing in the park. Grandpa likes fishing best. In the afternoon, we go shopping. Dad and Mum buy a new computer for Grandpa. Now it’s 6 o'clock in the evening. We are all at home. Dad is cooking a big meal. Mum and Grandma are making a cake. Mum says, “Grandpa is 70. Let’s put seven candles on the cake.” I am making a birthday card for Grandpa. Look at the card. Is it beautiful?

On this day, mothers often get beautiful flowers as gifts from their children. Carnation (康乃馨) is the best flower for mothers in the world. In China, the flower for mothers can be the Nepenthe (忘忧草), too.

Fathers and children do many things like cleaning the house on this day. Mothers feel happy and often go shopping or see a film with their friends. And the family usually has a big meal out with lots of great food for this day.

Betty and her family live in big house in the UK. The house has a big garden with a swimming pool in it. Today is Betty’s tenth birthday. Her mum and dad are having a party for her. They put a long table beside the swimming pool. There are lots of presents, cards and food on the table. Betty and her friends are playing ball games in the pool. Betty’s dog Brownie is in the pool, too. Everyone is wearing a birthday hat. Brownie is wearing a hat, too. It’s so much fun. Betty is very happy that her birthday is in August because she can have a swimming pool party. She wants to have parties like this on each birthday.
