One day, a monkey walked to a lake. Suddenly(突然), he saw a tiger under a tree. The tiger saw him, too. The tiger ran very fast after the monkey. He wanted to eat the monkey. The monkey was very afraid and he fell into the lake. The monkey couldn’t swim(游泳) and he shouted(喊叫), “Help! Help!” A dog came and he jumped into the lake. The dog swam(游泳) to the monkey but he could not help him. Both of them shouted for help. Luckily, a giraffe(长颈鹿) came along. He was very tall. He helped the dog and the monkey.

We look forward to our birthdays for 364 days a year! We invite special people to celebrate our birthdays with us together!

Children open the presents as soon as they are awake. They can᾽t wait for the birthday cake later in the day!

Friends and family send birthday cards. Sending birthday cards is a custom that began in England about 100 years ago.

The birthday child will have a party. And friends and family to the party bring presents for the birthday child. The children play games such as musical chairs and pass the parcel.

The birthday cake is decorated on a theme (主题). A candle for each year is lit and placed on top and the child blows out the candles making   a wish. We don᾽t put objects inside the cake as stated on many websites.

It used to be traditional for the birthday child to have the bumps (碰 撞). Friends would hold the child by the legs and under the arms and lift the child up and down bumping them gently on the ground. The number of bumps given is the age of the child plus one for extra good luck. As this can be dangerous, clapping is often done instead.

Some children do take sweets into school to share with their classmates on their birthdays. Adults also take cakes into their work place to celebrate their birthdays.

This is a very old story, but it teaches us something that is still true today.

One day, a father said to his young son, “Come with me and I will show you something.” The father got onto his donkey and told his son to walk behind him.

On the road some people pointed at the man and said, “Look at that man! Why doesn't he let the boy ride the donkey?” The man and the boy heard this, and so they changed places. The boy rode and the man walked.

A few minutes later, they passed some other people. The people pointed and said,“ Look at that boy! How can he ride while his father walks?” So the man got onto the donkey with the boy.

Then they passed some other people, who said, “That poor little donkey can't carry two people. They are much too heavy.” So they got off the donkey and they both walked.

They walked through a village, and people laughed at them, saying, “Look at those two fools! Why do they walk while they have a donkey?”

The man thought and then said, “We've tried riding and we've tried walking. Let's try carrying it.” So they carried the donkey, and all the people in the village laughed at them, saying, “Look! They're carrying the donkey! They are sad!”

Finally, they put the donkey down, and the man said to his son, “This is a lesson for you, my son. In this life, you can never please everyone!”

It’s Tuesday today. Kitty goes to the city to visit her aunt. It’s a big city. There are many tall buildings in the city. Kitty can’t find the way to her aunt’s house. She is lost. She wants to cross the street. But there are too many cars and buses. She feels afraid. A policeman comes and helps her cross the street. And he tells Kitty the way to her aunt’s house. Kitty thanks him and then she gets there on foot. Kitty is very happy to see her aunt.

Here are some photos of our trip to Beijing. This is Danny at the train station. He jumped on the train, but the train wasn't ready. He fell down from the train. He hurt his arm. And Jenny helped him. This is Jenny and me at the Palace Museum. It's very old and beautiful. We were happy to see the old tables and chairs in the palace.

One day a Chinese student went to study English in England. His family name is Sun.   It is the same as the word “sun”. England is   a country with bad weather. It is often cloudy and foggy (多雾的), and it rains now and then. So the people there don᾽t get much sunshine in the whole year. When the Chinese student went to London, a tall English policeman with a large face opened his passport (护 照) to examine (检查) it. The policeman was interested to find the Chinese name “Sun” in the passport. He thought it was pronounced (发 音) just like the

English word “sun”, so he said to the Chinese student, “I see your name is Sun. We want you very much here.”

The Chinese student was surprised. But after a moment the policeman began to smile, “Mr. Sun, your name brought sunshine to England! So we don᾽t want you to go away.”

I'm Xiao Wei. Last Monday was my birthday. But no one said “Happy Birthday” to me. I was very sad. My friend, Zhang Hong, asked me to go to her home after school. At 5:30, I went to Zhang Hong's house. It was dark in the house and I couldn't see anything. Suddenly, all my friends came out of the kitchen and said “Happy Birthday”. I was excited to see all my friends there. We played games and ate the birthday cake. We had fun together.

There is a big store near Betty's home. Yesterday Betty went shopping with her mother. Mum bought a new skirt for Betty. She bought some milk for Betty's brother Jim. And she bought some juice for Betty's father. What did she buy for herself (她自己)? Oh, it was a beautiful scarf.

A long time ago a farmer took a big bag of seeds (种子)to sell in the market. Suddenly his cart᾽s (马车的) wheels hit a big stone. One of the seeds fell out of the bag and dropped onto the hot, dry ground.

“I᾽m scared,” said the seed. “I need to be safe under the soil.” Just then a cow walked on the seed and pushed it into the soil.

“I᾽m thirsty,” said the seed. “I need some water to help me grow up.” Just then it started to rain.

The next morning the seed had a long little green shoot. All day it sat in the sun and grew taller and taller.

The next day it had its first leaf. This helped it to catch sunlight.

That evening a hungry bird tried to eat it, but the seed had roots to help it to stay in the soil.

Many years of sunshine and rain passed, and the seed became a tall tree. Today if you visit the countryside, you can see the tree. It is big and strong and now makes seeds of its own.
