Some people say they can find out what the weather will be like. They look at birds. When they see a bird fly high out to the sea, they say it will be a nice day, for birds do not like to fly out to the sea when it could rain. When the weather will be bad, sea birds turn back and stay on shore. A big wind can come with a rain. Birds do not like to fly in a big wind. They may sit in a tree when rain is on the way.

Some people look at different animals on a farm. A chicken may make a big noise when rain is on the way. It may run here and there. A frog can show the weather, too. A frog will make a big noise when rain is on the way. It will stay in the water. On a nice day, it will not make a big noise. It will come up high out of the water.

I am in China now. I go to school five days a week. The school and the food are good here. I have some Chinese friends. They are all very friendly to me. On Saturdays and Sundays we stay at home. In the afternoon we play games. My Chinese friends like English very much. They ask me to teach them English and they teach me Chinese. I like staying here.

Mr. Smith looks at his watch. It is half past seven. He gets out of bed quickly. Then he puts on his clothes. He is often late, so he doesn᾽t have time for breakfast. He runs all the way to the station and he gets there just in time for the bus. Mr. Smith never eats anything in the morning. He always says to his friends at the office, “It᾽s good to have breakfast in the morning, but it is better to be in bed.”

Mrs. Baker went out after breakfast. She came in a shop, Richard, a salesman, met her and said, “Can I help you, Mrs. Baker?

“Yes, please”, said Mrs. Baker, “I want a hat.”

The salesman showed some hats to her. She thought it was warm in the store and put her hat on the counter (柜台).She didn't think some of them were cheap. And she didn't like the others' colours. She chose and chose. Richard had to do what she said. But she wasn't pleased with (对……满意) anyone. At last she saw a hat and said, “Well, I'll take this one.”

“Oh, sorry, Mrs. Baker”, said Richard, “It's yours.”

Paul and Peter like sports. They are going to skate on Sunday. It᾽s 7:30 now and they are listening to the radio, “Friday is going to be cold. It is going to snow. Friday night and Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday are going to be cold and fine.” Paul and Peter are very glad. The weather is going to be good for skating. They are going to get up early and they are certainly going to skate well.

Every town in the United States has a post office. Some are very small, and you may also find them in the corner of a shop. Others are large buildings. They are open five days a week and on Saturday mornings. From Monday to Friday they are usually open from 8:30 to 16:30.

If you know how much the postage (邮资)is for your letter, you can buy stamps at any window.   In some post offices you can buy stamps from machines (机器). Stamps are sold at many different prices, from one cent (美分) to many dollars. If you are not sure how much postage is for your letter, you may ask the man or the woman in the post office for help. He or she will give you the stamps you need. If you are sending your letters far away, you should use airmail envelopes. Remember that postage will be more expensive for a letter to be sent outside the country.

At a post office you can also buy postcards. A postcard is cheaper than a letter. Usually, the price of postage for a postcard is about half that of a letter. The postcards that you buy at   a post office do not have pictures. However, also they are not to be sent outside the country.
