Ben and Kitty are at Simon’s flat in Beijing. They are talking about the future city in their minds. Read what Ben, Kitty and Simon said.

Ben My future city is called “Pollution-free Town”. It is built on an island. I hope that there is no air pollution in my future city. People use only electric cars on the roads. The buildings are only seven floors high and there are no offices. People ride their boats to the cities to work. Students do not use books at school because they have their own computers.

Kitty My future city is a modern city with buildings over 60 floors. Nobody drives on the roads. They use flying cars to travel from one building to another. There is a big building called “The Plaza”. In “The Plaza”, there is a big restaurant. People can try all kinds of food: Cantonese food, Beijing food or western food, etc. There is also a big supermarket. People can buy everything there.

Simon In the year 3000, people do not have to work in an office because computers and robots can do all their work. Robots work in hospitals, supermarkets, etc. People can spend their time in the big entertainment (娱乐) centre in the future city: In the centre, there is a big shopping mall. People can buy very cheap things because computers and robots can make everything cheaply. For example, they can buy a big TV for only ￥500. They can also sing in the big karaoke club or go to the cinema there.

Jack was born in New York. He lived there with his parents for more than ten years. Last year his father came to work in Beijing. China is quite different from America, and Beijing is far away from New York. So Jack wanted to know what kind of life the Chinese people were living. He often wrote to his father to ask some questions about China.

Last month, Jack and his mother came to China. How happy he was! Now Jack has some Chinese lessons every day. We all know Chinese is quite different from English. It's not easy for an American boy to learn. But Jack is interested in it and he works very hard.

For the first time in Beijing Jack was walking in Chang'an Street with his mother yesterday. He saw so many people in the street. Most of them were very kind and friendly. He tried to ask them some questions in Chinese. They answered his questions kindly. But sometimes some of them couldn't understand him.

When Jack came back to school, he told the story to his friends. They said to him, "A lot of Chinese are studying English now. Why didn't you ask them questions in English?"

Plants are very important. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals can get their food by eating plants and other animals. Man gets food by eating plants and animals, too. So animals and man need plants to live. This is why there are so many plants around us.

There are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering (无花的)plants. Almost all the trees around us are flowering plants. You can know some trees from their flowers and fruit. Non-flowering plants do not grow flowers. You cannot see many non-flowering plants around you.

If we look carefully at the plants around us, we will find that there are many kinds of plants. Some plants are big and some are small. Most of them are green. We can live on the Earth because of the plants around us.

 I am not a good-looking boy and I'm not good at studying, either. Some people don't even want to talk to me. So I usually feel lonely. Sometimes I think that if I leave home, nobody would care. How can I stop feeling like this?

Without knowing more about you, it is hard for me to give you some good advice. But first, I am sure that you are wrong that nobody would care if you left home. What about your parents? And other family members? It seems that you are very sad. You'd better go to see a doctor or talk to your parents. They will be able to help you.

Secondly, I'm sure there's someone in your class who feels lonely, too. You never know how other people feel inside. Try to make friends with them.

Or you may join a club to meet new people and to keep yourself busy. You need to find happiness in yourself. Write a list of all the good things about yourself, learn to like yourself, and then others will see your confidence （自信心） and like you, too.
