Rainforests are some of the most beautiful places on the Earth. Tall trees grow high into the air. Millions of different kinds of animals run and play under the trees. Rainforests cover two percent of the earth, but they have over 50 percent of the world’s plants and animals.
It takes at least one minute to plant a tree. In that minute, 60 hectares (亩) of rainforests are destroyed forever. Six kinds of animals become extinct; they will never be seen again.
Every second, people cut down one hectare of rainforests. They use the trees to make things like paper. Because they cut down the trees so fast, the rainforests become smaller and smaller. By 2030, they will all be gone.
You can help save the rainforests. Try not to use too much paper; then paper companies will not cut down so many trees.

Shanghai has been my home, sweet home for ten years now. I never thought that when I came here in 2004 from Toronto that I would stay this long, but I fell in love with the city as soon as my plane landed at Pudong International Airport.
Shanghai is one of the greatest cities of the world. It is alive and exciting. Here, everything is new and everything seems possible. When I arrived there were only three Metro lines (地铁线). Today there are sixteen. Ten years ago, many people still lived in poor neighbourhoods with houses that did not have bathrooms or even hot water. Today, most people live much better.
I enjoy walking down the cool, tree-lined streets of the French Concession (法租界) during the summer and seeing the old, Western-style houses. Many street vendors (小贩) have gone, but you can still buy some delicious street food in places. Near Shanghai Indoor Stadium (体育馆), in winter, there is always someone selling hot sweet potatoes baked in a barrel (桶). It's a great snack on a cold day.
But what I like most about Shanghai is the people. People in Shanghai are friendly and talkative. They're also not afraid to try something new which is why fashion is so popular here. From unusual hairstyles to colourful clothes, people in Shanghai like to dress up and stand out in the crowd.
With its mixture of old and new, with its brightness and charm, I am proud to call Shanghai my home, sweet home.

It’s no fun being in the hospital. Children who have to be in hospital often feel bored or lonely, and this would make them feel even sicker. Now some hospitals in the USA have computers connected to the Net and let sick children talk to other sick children in other hospitals on the computer anytime they want.
So far the system links (连接) eleven hospitals, each with about twenty computers that can be moved from room to room. Sick children can get in touch with patients like themselves for on-line talks or games.
Doctors agree that the system is more than a play thing. It helps sick children feel better, and that may help them get better.
With the computer children don’t feel so alone while they are in the hospital. They can get on-line and meet sick children who have the same health problems, share their medical battle stories, or anything.
One of the things that the system is trying to do is to link outside the hospital network so that children can talk with friends and family. Another is to link one hundred hospitals by the end of this year.
