Rose is my English teacher. She is from England. She can speak a little Chinese. She goes to school from Monday to Friday. So she often buys things on Saturdays or Sundays. Today is Saturday. Rose goes to a shop. She comes out of her car and goes into the shop.

“What can I do for you?” The girl in the shop asks her in Chinese. Rose thinks she can tell the girl what she wants in Chinese. So she says in Chinese, “A quilt（被子）, please.”

Then the girl goes to the back of the shop. “My Chinese is not bad. The girl understands me,” she thinks.

Rose is happy. Soon the girl comes back. She shows Rose a cup.

Sam and Peter were good friends. Sometimes they were kind to each other. Sometimes they were not. But other students around them said they were like brothers.

One day, they went out for a walk together At noon, they wanted to eat something and they went into a restaurant to have lunch. The waiter asked them, “What can I do for you?”

“Give me two apples first,” said Sam.

The waiter put the two apples on the table. Then Peter took the big one very fast. Sam got angry. “You are not polite. Why didn't you take the small one?” Sam said.

“But I was right,” said Peter with a smile, “If I let you take first, which one do you take?”

“I will take the small one,” said Sam. “Yes,” Peter said, “if you take the small one, the big one will be mine. Don't you think so?”

“Oh!” Sam couldn't answer. At last, Sam ate the small one.

It's half past seven. Tim is going to school. Twenty minutes later, he is in the classroom. Class will begin in twenty minutes. Now he wants to get ready for class. But he can't find his schoolbag.

“Where is my bag?” says Tim to himself. “Oh, it's still at home. I must go back and get it.”

It's seven fifty-five. Tim is running fast home. Ten minutes later, he is at home again.

“Why are you back?” his father asks.

“I forgot my schoolbag!”

His father is angry and begins to shout at him.

“You are so careless! I told you one hundred times you must be careful. But you make the same mistake again and again!”

Then his mother comes.

“Why are you shouting?” his mother asks.

“Because I'm angry. Tim is so careless. He forgot to take his schoolbag to school. And it is the third time this week!”

“You should let him go to school at once The class will begin!” says his mother.

“OK. You must be quick. You will be late.”

“Yes, I will be careful next time!” With these words, Tim turns around and begins to run.

“Your schoolbag!” shout his father and mother.

Anne and Joseph are talking about an interesting question. Why do some people change their names? There can be many reasons. Hanna changed her name to Anne because she thought it would be easier for people to remember. On the other hand, Joseph is thinking about changing his name to an unusual name because he wants to be different.

People have a lot of reasons for changing their names. Film stars, singers, sportsmen and some other famous people often change their names because they want names that are not ordinary, or that have special sound. They chose the “new name” for themselves instead of the name their parents gave them when they were born.

Some people have another reason for changing their names. They have moved to a new country and want to use a name that is usual there. For example, Li Kaiming changed his name to Ken Lee when he moved to the United States. He uses the name Ken at his job and at school. But with his family and Chinese friends, he uses Li Kaiming. For some people, using different names makes life easier in their new country.

In many countries, a woman changes her family name to her husband’s after she gets married. But today, many women are keeping their own family name and not using their husband’s. Sometimes, women use their own name in some situations (情况) and their husband’s in other situations. And some use both their own name and their husband’s.
