Recently, Google researchers published a paper describing results from an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, called MusicLM, built to create music. It is not the first AI music tool to launch. But the examples Google provides demonstrate musical creative ability based on a limited set of descriptive words. AI shows how complex computer systems have been trained to behave in human-like ways. Google engineers explain the MusicLM system this way:
First, a user comes up with a word or words that describe the kind of music they want the tool to create. For example, a user could enter this short phrase into the system: “a continuous calming violin backed by a soft guitar sound.” The descriptions entered can include different music styles, instruments or other existing sounds. Several different music examples produced by MusicLM were published online. Some of the generated music came from just one-or-two-word descriptions, such as “jazz”, or “techno”. The system created other examples from more detailed descriptions containing whole sentences. In the resulting recording, the music seems to keep very close to the description. The team said that the more detailed the description is, the better the system can attempt to produce it.
In addition to generating new music from written descriptions, the team said the system can also create examples based on a person’s own singing, whistling or playing an instrument. The researchers said the tool “produces high-quality music...over several minutes, while being faithful to the text conditioning signal”.
Although it hasn’t been released for public use, Google announced it was releasing a “high-quality dataset (数据集)” of more than 5,500 music-writing pairs prepared by professional musicians called MusicCaps. The researchers took that step to assist in the development of other AI music generators.
The MusicLM researchers said they believe they have designed a new tool to help anyone quickly and easily create high-quality music selections. However, the team said it also recognizes some risks linked to the machine learning process.

I’m Li Hua. I’m very glad here to give you a short speech. As we all know, we are what we eat. As a result, it’s very important for us to form healthy eating habits. Therefore, bad eating habits are still very common among us students. Some of us often went to school without breakfast. Some like to have snacks. Others are particular about food, and still some eat or drink too much. All these bad habits will surely do harm to us health.
To keep fit, we should have balancing and healthy diets, they generally include proper amounts of fish, meat, fruit, vegetable as well as staple food. Remember to eat fewer snacks and little junk food. Besides, we had better to have meals regularly.
On my opinion, we should try to build up strong body. Only in this way can we have enough energy to study better.
That’s all. Thank you!

Elements of Latin have made their way into many western countries. Data varies, but as much as 70% of words in English have a Latin or Greek root. By learning more about these roots and how they combine (结合) to create words, you will have an advantage in understanding new words, even if you’ve never seen them before.
The great thing is that you’re not learning the whole language with its grammar. You just need to memorize some parts of the vocabulary that you often see in English. So how do word roots work?
Every word has a root. This part contains the key to a word’s meaning. Take the word “happy”, for example. This word only contains the root, which means full of joy. Some words, however, have extra parts. We call these affixes (词缀), including prefixes, the part attached before the root, and suffixes, the part attached behind the root. Based on the additional meaning of the prefixes and suffixes, the meaning of the final word will be shaped to mean something new.
Take the word “autobiography” for example. The root is “bio”, meaning life. You may have noticed that many words with “bio” have something to do with life or living beings—biology, biography, and so on. When the suffixes “graph”, meaning to write, is added to it, it means a story about someone’s or something’s life. “Auto” means by oneself. Altogether, an “autobiography” is a story about a person’s life, written by the person himself or herself.
In a word, a better grasp of word roots can make you understand the English language better, and will help you with your vocabulary recognition and memory skills.
1.What’s needed to understand new words with roots?A.A good understanding of Latin or Greek. | B.A full understanding of grammar. |
C.The ability to recognize different parts of words. | D.The ability to speak various Western languages. |
A.It can’t form a word by itself. | B.It is a necessary part of a word. |
C.It is more important than affixes. | D.It has a relatively simple meaning. |
A.The science that is related to living things. |
B.A person who does research about chemistry. |
C.A person who does research about living things. |
D.The study of chemical reactions occurring in living things. |
A.Secret of understanding new words. | B.Latin’s way into Western language. |
C.Amazing power of affixes. | D.Tips on language exams. |
One day recently, Laurie Fenby was shopping at a garage sale in Rochester New York and as she was leaving, she found a wallet on the ground.
Laurie looked inside and found a Jamaican (牙买加人的) driver’s license, some American cash and some Jamaican cash. She tried all the usual ways to find the man, whose name was George. She couldn’t find him through Google or Facebook and then she asked for suggestions through Next door, a community website. Laurie received a lot of ideas and responses-some of them were not so positive. But one lady advised her to contact a little store that is known to have many Jamaican migrant workers as clients. Laurie called the store and found that yes, indeed, there was someone named George who lost his wallet.
Laurie suggested that the store owner contact George and have him call her. When George contacted her, he was able to identify everything in the wallet and Laurie was able to return it. But it didn’t stop there. Laurie asked George, “What do you and the migrant workers need?” He said they need some warm clothes. Laurie immediately contacted the community and was able to organize a clothing drive. She received lots of coats, jackets, shoes and other supplies. Recently Laurie met George and the other migrant workers in Rochester, and she joined them to pick apples together.
They were so thankful to Laurie and her friends — and none of this community building or friendship would have happened if Laurie had not been so kind.
