If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some “moving stars”. But they’re not real stars. They’re man-made satellites(人造卫星) . And the biggest of all is the International Space Station (ISS). It is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth from May to July. People can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.
When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive space program. Billions of dollars are spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be(B)a stepping stone for future space exploration(探测). “The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better,” said Kathryn Cark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries. China isn’t an ISS county, but it has helped to do some experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

One day, Mr. Smith took a plastic(塑料的)apple to class. He stood in front of the classroom and said, "Please smell the smell(闻气味)in the air!”
One student put up his hand and answered, "I have smelled it. It is the smell of an apple."
Mr. Smith walked to the students, passed by each of them and said, "Please smell again to see if the smell of the apple is still in the air."
Half of the students put up their hands to show that they could smell it. Mr. Smith returned to the front of the classroom and asked again if the students could smell the apple. Everyone said yes but one student, Henry. Mr. Smith went to him and asked," You really can't smell the apple?"
Henry answered,“No, I can't smell it. I don't think it's a real(真的)apple."
Mr. Smith smiled and said to the class, "He is right! This is not a real apple. It doesn't have any smell."
All of the other students were surprised. Some of them might have thought that the apple was not real, but they didn't have the confidence(自信)to speak up. They just "followed the leader" and went along with the first student.

According to a new study, good friends are actually the next closest thing to family in genes(基因).
U. S. researchers have found that we are more genetically similar to our friends than to any stranger. The study suggested that genes may influence how we choose our friends.
The study looked at the gene information of nearly 2,000 people, who were chosen from a small U.S. town as part of a larger heart study. The study showed that friends share about 0.1 percent more DNA than strangers do.
Besides providing DNA information, participants(参与者)in the study were also asked who their closest friends were. Because all of the participants came from such a small community, it made this group suitable for such studies. It has also led to argument. Friendships in small communities are more probably genetically connected, because such communities usually have fewer kinds of genes.
“I wonder whether the ways used in the study can fully explain the known causes which drive friendships,” said Oxford’s Dr. Rory Bowden.
There was one interesting finding from the study. Some of the genes that friends are most likely to have in common are about smell. “You may really love the smell of coffee. And you’re drawn to a place where other people have been drawn because they love the smell of coffee too,” Fowler explained. “And so that might be the possible place for you to make friends.”
