In 1826, a Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden. That was the first photo.

The next important year in the history of photography was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his picture you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest thing. This kind of photo was called a Daguerreotype(银版照相).

Soon, other people began to use Daguerre’s way. Travelers brought back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of famous buildings, cities and mountains.

In about 1840, photography was developed. Then photographers could take pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of films and other machines. But this did not stop them; for example, some in the United States worked very hard. Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike.

About ten men in every hundred suffer from color blindness in some way. W1. are luckier. Only about one in two hundred is affected in this matter. Perhaps, after all, it’s s2. to be driven by a lady.

There are different forms of color blindness. In some cases, a man cannot see deep red. He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shades of green. In rare cases, an unlucky man may see e3. in shades of green.

Color blindness in human beings is a strange thing to e4.. In a single eye, there are millions of very s5. things called “cones(视锥细胞)”. They show us shape but no color.

Some insects have favorite colors. Mosquitoes like blue but do not like yellow. A red light will not attract insects, but a blue lamp will. In a similar way, human beings also have favorite colors. Yet we are lucky. With the help of the cones in our eyes, we can see many beautiful colors by day, a7. with the help of the rods, we can see shapes at night.
