Both of my parents worked full-time when I was a little girl, so my grandmother would stay at our house during the day. We would watch game shows in the living room. Our favorite show was The Price is Right. We would call out our answers along with the contestants. Laughter filled the tiny but warm house. When I got older and started going to school, we couldn't watch our game shows together regularly. That was okay with me, though, because one thing I liked better than watching game shows with my grandmother was helping her bake cakes. Watching her in the kitchen was amazing: she walked around the kitchen, busy but delighted. she never seemed to need the recipes and everything she made tasted delicious. At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch. Even though I didn't understand what she was doing, I really enjoyed waiting her and waiting for the cakes. As I got older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring the sugar. The day she let me separate the eggs, I felt like I had found complete pleasure. Later my parents decided that I could take care of myself, and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up burnt sometimes. More often they turned out pretty well. I tried out new recipes, and whenever l got to a thorny part, I would call my grandmother for advice and she would always give lots of useful advice patiently. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything.

My grandmother passed away ten years ago, but I still think of her every day. Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me in her bedroom. It included her recipes for brownies, cookies, and my favorite, lemon pie. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could   hear her voice and   see her smile. She was the one who taught me not just about baking, but about life.

I would never forget my loving grandmother and the "treasure" she had given me.

1.While helping her grandmother bake, the writer _______.
A.turned out to be a troublemakerB.found it interesting and attractive
C.hoped to make a living by bakingD.regretted missing the game shows
2.The underlined word "thorny" in Paragraph 4 most probably means _______.
A.wonderfulB.specialC.dangerousD.difficult
3.From the recipe book the writer found, we can infer that her grandmother _______.
A.knew the writer's taste wellB.taught the writer some life lessons
C.wanted to sell the recipe for moneyD.thought the writer was unable to bake
4.What's the "treasure" that the writer's grandmother gave her?

Education is very close in my heart. My father grew up in a very small village in China. In those days, not many villagers could read. So my father opened a night school to teach them how to read. With his help, many people learned to write their own names; with his help, many people learned to read newspaper for the first time; with his help, many women were able to teach their children how to read. As his daughter, I know what education means to the people, especially those without it. after generations(几代人)of hard work, China has come a long way in education. I am a beneficiary(受益者)of that progress. Otherwise I would never become a singer and a professor of music.
Education is about women and the girls. It is important for girls to go to school because they will become their children's first teacher someday. In China, Spring Bud Education Program(春蕾计划) has helped over 3 million girls go back to school. Many of them have finished university education and they are doing well at work.
Education is about equality. In poor countries and regions(地区) the number of school dropouts(辍学) is astonishing. We call for more educational resources to these places.
Education is about the young people. Young people are the future. Education is important because it not only gives young people knowledge and skills but also helps them become responsible citizens.
Many years ago my father made a small difference in his village. Together we can make a big
difference in the world. I was once asked about my Chinese dream. I said I hope all children especially girls can have chances to get good education. This is my Chinese dream.
