Success is often considered to be the opposite of failure. To teenagers, it is the achievement of a goal or completion of something they really need, such as good grades and the ability to get along well with their classmates. Some schools used to agree with most parents who measured (判定) the success of their children according to grades, but now they pay special attention to moral (道德的) education and character-building to make sure teenagers achieve success in building human relationships.
Schools give chances to students to discover their hidden ability so that they can enjoy some form of success. For example, those good at speaking skills are advised to take part in speech competitions while those interested in arts are expected to perform in front of their classmates. Teenagers also get the pleasure of success when they join their favorite clubs.
Teenagers are often told that success is not easy to achieve and that success lies in hard work. Great efforts have to be put into project work. Doing things much later than planned should be avoided as this will lead to a mountain of work which finally makes them nervous. Another good quality (品质) is a sense of responsibility which makes them remember that a task has to be completed.
Sticking to moral values is the key to success too. Honest teenagers will win the trust of friends leading to good relationships. Self-motivation (自我激励) is another quality to be developed, for self-motivated teenagers will have the strong will and drive to perform a task and finally get to enjoy a sense of achievement.

They never cut up the noodles because the long noodles are a symbol of long life. In some places, Chinese people also eat eggs on their birthday. They are a symbol of life and good luck.
All of these birthday foods may be different, but the ideas are the same. They bring good luck to the birthday person.
1.What do people in the UK sometimes put in a birthday cake? (no more than 2 words)Parents are the closest people in the world to children, but it’s not always easy to deal with(处理) the parent-child relationship. Now the Internet age brings a new difficulty. Parents and children have different ideas about the use of the Internet. Why does it happen?
Sometimes, children use the Internet for some useful information, but their parents don’t believe them enough. 家长们总是担心使用网络会对孩子们有坏处。Many children really spend too much time playing on computers or smart phones.
What can we do to help improve the parent-child relationship? Experts said, “If you don’t want your parents to worry about you, you should share more with them and tell them that you can plan your time well. Children should do more for healthy and close family relationship.”
Yang Li, a middle school student from Chengdu, said she believed the Internet brought her closer to her parents. She always shared some new apps with her parents. Sometimes she even taught her parents how to use them. After that, she found her parents understand her better and trust her slowly.
1.Does the Internet bring a new difficulty to parent-child relationship? When my daughter was in primary school, she brought home four small twigs (嫩枝) one day. Her school gave these twigs to the students to plant. None of them looked very well, but with hope for the future, I planted them in our backyard. Over the years, because of an accident with the lawnmower and poor soil, three of them died. Only one survived.
It grew very slowly. It never got very tall. A few years ago, I noticed that it was starting to die. Only the top third of the tree was still green. Last summer I did my best to save it by feeding it a lot of fertilizer (肥料), but it didn’t work.
Later one morning, I went out and looked at it again. I was wondering whether it would be better to just cut it down. As I walked over to take a closer look at it, I noticed something moving in the leaves. It was a bird patiently building a nest (巢) in the top branches. I smiled when I looked at it. I thought maybe this old tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or pretty, but it was still giving a bird a home.
This tree reminded me that all of our lives have purpose. It doesn’t matter if we are young and strong or old and sick. Until our last breath, we have things to do, love to give, and joy to share. We can help to make this world a better and more beautiful place.
