The Story of the Dragon(龙) Boat Festival
Chinese people celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival every year. It usually comes about in June or July. On that day, we usually have a dragon boat race. Dragon boats are very long. Usually, a dragon boat is 20 to 40 metres long. It looks like a dragon. It needs 20 people to row(划船). Chinese people also make and eat zongzi on the day. Zongzi is a rice dumpling. It looks like a triangle.
This is an important festival for Chinese people to remember(纪念) Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a great poet(诗人) and he was angry with the bad king(国王). He jumped into the river and died(死).
There was a big fish in the river. The big fish wanted to eat his body. People rowed their boats to save his body. People made zongzi to feed(喂养) the fish. Today we have a boat race to remember Qu Yuan.
