It was autumn, and the Indians asked their new chief (酋长) what the weather would be like this winter. The chief said it was usually cold, and he told the villagers to collect wood (木材).
As a good chief, he called the weatherman and asked, “Is the coming winter going to be cold?”
“It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,” the weatherman answered.
So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect more wood. A week later he called the weatherman again.
“Is it going to be a very cold winter?
“Yes,” the weatherman answered again. “It’s going to be a very cold winter.”
The chief again went back to his people and told them to collect every piece of wood they could find. Two weeks later he called the weatherman again.
“Are you sure that the winter is going to be very cold?”
“Yes,” the weatherman answered again. “It’s going to be very cold.”
“Why are you so sure?”
“Because the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!”
