Do you have a special name? What is your best friend’s name? What do you think of it.? Who gives him or her that name?

Most of the time, our parents give us the name. Sometimes, parents can spend several months looking for the best name for their baby. Some ask their friends and family members for a good idea. Others keep the name a secret, because they are afraid that the name may become “too popular”. That is to say, they don’t want their child to be one of too many in their class.

In the past, people would choose a “good old name” just because many other people chose it. But today, it is not the same. People want their children to be called something different. The reason is that when the name becomes common (普通的), people might think the person will be common, too.

We can all think of names which let us think of a beautiful girl, a lovely boy, a soldier, or a hero. We think so because of our parents or our past experiences. If you have a bad experience with someone, you will think that other person with the same name is also bad. It is true that we usually think the same of people with the same name. It is also true for famous people and people from TV shows. You may think that a boy with the same name of a famous singer is also nice and handsome.

All in all, a name sometimes can decide (决定) how people think of us. Sometimes it may decide how we live our life. Our names are in some way very important in our life. But we should know that we shouldn’t judge (评判) others by names.
