Have you ever tasted something that you grew by yourself in your garden? Many people have never had this e1．. Alice Waters, who owns Chez. Panisse Restaurant, wanted to do something different.

Alice Waters has her own o2． about health. She thinks healthy food makes you healthy. She believes that food, environment and health are 3． (strong) connected. She hopes people can understand the i4． of the environment where their food comes from.

Waters got a lot of support from Neil Smith, the head of Martin Luther King Junior Middle School in Berkeley, California. She set up a cooking and gardening program at the school 5． his help. She wanted to show students that a healthy body and a healthy environment go closely together. She also wanted to let them find the p6． of gardening and making the foods that they grew.

At first, teachers, students, and community helpers p7． together to help her change a parking area in the school into a garden. Finally, in 1995, the first plants were 8． (grow). Students learned how to grow them. Gradually, they found that they were always 9． (look) forward to the time they would spend in the garden. Every year since then, new plants are c10． to make sure that they are the best ones for the environment and the school’s needs.

Alice Waters hopes that one day every school in the US will have a garden.
