My mother was a housewife (家庭主妇). She thought that excellent people spent a lot of time reading. So she asked my brother and me to read two books every week and write book reports (报告). She couldn’t read the books at all, but she would check them and make marks (检查并作笔记).

When I went to school, I was an A-student, but not for long. I wanted only cool clothes and often went out to play with friends after school. I went from being an A-student to a C-student, but I didn’t worry about that at all.

One night, I told my mother that I wanted to buy a T-shirt. Then my mother gave me all her money. She said I could use the money left to buy T-shirts if I finished buying all the things the family needed. I was very happy about that, but after I bought all the things we needed, there was no money left. Then I knew how difficult it was for my mother to take care of (照顾) the family. I went back to my studies and became an A-student again. At last, my dream came true and I became a doctor.

My mother, a woman with little education (教育) made my dream come true. So I think there is no job more important than parenting.
