He tried to run away. But it began to bark at (对……吠) him. He couldn’t find anything except (除了) snow and ice. Suddenly he saw a stone on the ground. He wanted to p6． it up but failed (失败).

“How strange (奇怪)!” Mr. Smith said to himself. “People didn’t tie (拴) their dogs, but tied the stones. My God!”
