Florence Nightingale was born on May 12th, 1820. In 1851 she trained as a nurse. Two years later she went to a British military(军事的)hospital so that she could help British soldiers. Before she arrived, many soldiers died in the hospital because it was dirty. Nightingale worked hard to make the hospital clean and stop soldiers dying. When she returned to England in 1856, she was a national heroine. Nightingale wrote two books about nursing and she also started a school to train nurses. She died in London on August 13th, 1910, when she was 90 years old.
