Can you think of any questions you have about the natural world? By trying to find the answers to your questions, you are acting like a scientist.
Why does the sky look blue on a sunny day? Sunlight is made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (靛蓝), and violet (紫色) light. The air is made up of many tiny bits (小块). Most colors in the light move directly through the air. The blue and indigo parts of the light bump into (碰撞) the bits of air. The light spreads out and makes the sky look blue. Light can make a glass of milk look blue, too.
Let’s Do It!
☆ Fill a glass partway (部分) with milk.
☆ In a dark room, shine a flashlight (手电筒) into the top of the glass of milk.
☆What happened? The glass looked blue because the bits that made up the milk took in (吸入) the red, orange, yellow, green, and violet colors but not the indigo and blue colors in the light. Instead the milk pushed the blue light to the sides.
Keep looking at the world like a scientist. Just start with a question and try to find the answer. You are sure to uncover lots of fun facts about the natural world. No matter what you want to find out next, remember to have fun. Learning about the natural world can be a lifelong (终生的) adventure.

44.The bits of the milk take in all the colors except for ________.
A.orange and yellow | B.violet and indigo |
C.green and blue | D.indigo and blue |
45.We can learn from the last paragraph that ________.
A.we should try to find the answers with the help of the scientists |

C.no matter whether you are young or old, try to learn about the natural world |
D.if you want to have fun, keep looking at the world like a scientist |
A man was driving along the road when he saw three penguins (企鹅) standing on the road. They looked lost, so he picked them up and put them in the back seat of his car. My parents give me an allowance every week. An allowance is the money I earn (赚得) when I do chores or jobs around the house. There are a lot of things I want to buy with my allowance, but I have to earn it first! There are many ways to earn money. I do chores, make my bed and empty the dishwasher. I also help my parents whenever they ask.
My parents let me choose how to spend my allowance, but they say I shouldn’t use it up at once. That’s why they taught me about budgets (预算). A budget helps people buy things now and also save for things in the future. My mom says there are three ways to use my allowance. I can spend it, save it, or give it away. I want to do all three, so my mom and I make three jars. One is a “spend” jar, one is a “save” jar, and one is a “give” jar.
Spend Jar
The spend jar is my favorite! I put most of my allowance here. At the end of the month, I count up all my spending money. I use it to buy things and do fun things with my friends.
Save Jar
Sometimes, there are things I want, but I don’t have enough money. That’s what the save jar is for. I put some of my allowance in it. It builds up more and more each week. After a while, I have enough money to buy what I want.
Give Jar
The last jar is very special. It’s the give jar. I donate (捐赠) the money to a charity (慈善) or another good cause. My dad says that donating money helps other people and makes our world a better place.
I like putting my allowance into my three jars. It’s fun to see it build up over time! Do you earn an allowance?

There was an important event in 2017 in France. People voted (投票) the president through two rounds (轮). There were 11 candidates (候选人) in this election. The first round was on April 23. Emmauel Macron and Marine Le Pen were the top two. The second round was on May 7 and finally Emmanuel Macron won the election (大选). The 39-year-old is the youngest president of the country, reported Xinhua.
Many people voted for him because he is inclusive (包容的) and open, according to HuffPost. He wants to work with Europe in many areas. He said France should welcome refugees (难民) in need of “protection”. He will also focus on (集中注意力于) France’s relationship with other countries, including China.
“I will vote for Macron because he wants to do everything for all the French people, for Europe, and for the world,” a voter told ABC before the election.
Many people also think Macron has great personal charm (魅力). Macron likes reading very much, even as a child. He especially enjoys classical books. “At an age when most people only watched TV, he just read.” his school friend Antoine Marguet told BBC.

After getting some information about dinosaurs from the encyclopedia (百科全书), Mary got interested in these animals. She surfed the Internet and found a lot more about dinosaurs. Here’s what she wrote in her notebook.
General information
Millions of years ago, long before there were any people, there were dinosaurs. They existed (存在) on earth for about 165 million years and suddenly died out (灭绝) 65 million years ago.
Fun facts
Size
◆The largest dinosaurs were more than 30 meters long and up to 15 meters tall.
◆The smallest dinosaurs were about the size of a chicken and had very long tails. They ate insects (昆虫).
Egg
◆Most dinosaurs were hatched (孵化) from eggs.
◆The biggest dinosaur egg ever found was the size of a football.
◆There were egg-eating dinosaurs that stole eggs from other dinosaurs’ nests (巢穴).
Brain
◆A lot of dinosaurs have big heads, but they didn’t have much brain inside. Most of the space was taken up with muscle (肌肉) and bones instead.
Tail
◆Dinosaurs that used their tails to beat their enemies had four feet and ate plants.
◆Dinosaurs that used their tails for balance (平衡) had two feet and two small arms, and they were often meat-eaters.
Discovery
◆From looking at bones, scientists can figure out (弄清楚) the shape of the dinosaur’s body.
◆There were more than 800 different kinds of dinosaurs.
Conclusion
We can only know about the lives of dinosaurs from the fossil (化石), eggs and footprints they left behind. But we still don’t know how they sounded, how they behaved, what colors they were and so on.
Oh, my God! Dinosaurs are the most mysterious animals in the world!

You know you have to read “between the lines” to get the information. I want to tell you something important during your reading.
You shouldn’t mark a book which isn’t yours. People who lend you books expect you to keep them clean.
96.
There are two ways in which one can own a book. One is to pay for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But full ownership comes only when you have made it a part of yourself.
97.
There are three kinds of book owners (物主). The first has all the books that are unread and untouched.
98. The third has a few dog-eared (翻折的) books, which are marked from front to back.
Why is marking a book necessary? Because it keeps you awake.
99. The marked book is usually the thought-through(经过思考的) book. Writing helps you remember the thoughts you had a lot, or the thoughts the writer expressed.
If reading is to learn anything more than passing time, it must be active. The book you read for pleasure can be read in a state (状态) of relation, and nothing is lost. But for a great book, rich in ideas, you can’t let your eyes move across the lines.
100.
A.And, reading is thinking. |
B.The best way to be a full owner is by writing in it. |
C.If you think it is useful to mark books, you will have to buy them. |
D.You should come up with an understanding (领悟) of what you have read. |
E.The second has most of the books as clean as on the day they were bought. |
