On April 26, 2017, a big Chinese ship caught the eyes of the whole world. China’s first homemade aircraft carrier (航空母舰) hit the water in Dalian, Liaoning.
The new big ship is China’s second aircraft carrier. It was designed in China and built in China, too. It is about 315 meters long and 75 meters wide. That is a bit larger than three soccer fields.
An aircraft carrier is like an airport on the sea. It can carry planes and troops to war. Planes fly from and land back on it, and soldiers work and live on it, too. But building an aircraft carrier is very hard and expensive. It costs a lot of money and needs a large amount of steel and other special materials. For example, a basic aircraft carrier is made of 60,000 tons of steel. It also uses complex (综合的) technologies, including radar, electrics, mechanics and weapons. Finally, it takes years to build.
Today, not many countries own an aircraft carrier or have the ability to build one. China has become the seventh country in the world that can build an aircraft carrier by itself, after the USA, Russia, England, France, Italy and Spain.

Do you often think of life in the future? Will we study at home? Will we fly to the moon easily? Everyone may have his or her views(观点)about that. Life in the future will be very different from life today. Between then and now, many changes will take place, but what will the changes be?
There will be changes in our food. Maybe no one will eat meat. Instead, people will eat more and more fruit and vegetables. People will stay away from junk food. People will be much healthier.
Computers will be smaller and much more useful. Maybe we will even put the computer into our pockets. There will be at least two computers in every family. And computer studies will be one of the most important subjects at school.
Work in the future will be different, too. Dangerous and hard work can be done by robots. People will work fewer hours than they do now. And they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and traveling.

Road accidents keep happening in every city,on every road and at any time. Traffic rules are made to keep order on the road. They can also help to keep the pedestrians(行人)safe.
The pedestrian has as many rules to follow as the driver of a car. You should walk on the sidewalk or at the edge of the road. Always look carefully before you walk across the street. If you ride a bike, don't ride in the middle of the road or look around to talk. If you drive, you should slow down at the traffic lights. You must always wear a seat belt(安全带). Without the belts, both the driver and the passengers may be badly hurt in a sudden accident.
Traffic rules are also called Road Safety rules. The maxim(格言)for all road users is“Thinking about others. ”

Dear friends,
I don’t feel well these days. I get lots of headaches because I have no time to exercise. My parents want me to get better grades, so they send me to many after-school clubs, including Language Learning Club, Music Club and Math Club etc. Also, my elder brother isn’t nice to me. He refuses to let me watch my favorite TV show. Instead, he watches whatever he wants until late at night. I don’t think this is fair. At home I always feel lonely and nervous. I’m always under too much pressure.
Is that normal? What can I do? Could you please give me some advice?
Kate
Dear Kate,
It’s not easy being your age, and it’s normal to have these feelings.
