A teacher decided to let her class play a game. The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag with a few potatoes. “The People’s Hero” was given to three others. They are Zhang Boli, Zhang Dingyu and Chen Wei.
	Zhang Boli is a traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） expert. He has been in charge of（负责） the research of COVID-19 treatments（治疗）connecting TCM with Western medicine.
	Zhang Dingyu was the head of Wuhan’s Jinyintan Hospital in 2020. He got an illness in 2018. However, he chose to stay with his partners in Wuhan to save lives.
	Chen Wei is a professor. She has made great achievements in the research on COVID-19. She is also one of the key leaders in China’s Ebola vaccine（埃博拉疫苗）research.

The purpose of giving the nation’s top honors to these people was to show the great courage and the spirit of working together of the Chinese people.

Once there was a small boy called Shankar who belonged to a poor family.

One day, he was walking through the forest, carrying some wood. He saw an old man who was very hungry. Shankar wanted to give him some food, but he did not have any food with him. So he continued on his way. On the way, he saw a fox who was very thirsty. He wanted to give him some water, but he did not have any water for himself. So he went on his way ahead.

Then he saw a young man with a dog who wanted to make a fire but did not have wood. Shankar learned about his problem and gave some wood to him. In return, the man gave him some food and water. Now he went back to the old man and gave him some food. Then he found the fox and gave some water to him. The old man and the fox were very thankful for Shankar’s help. Then Shankar went on his way happily.

Unluckily, one day Shankar fell down the hill. He was in pain but he couldn’t move and no one was there to help him. But the old man who he had helped before saw him, and quickly came and pulled him up the hill. Shankar had many wounds on his legs. The fox whom Shankar had given water to saw his wounds and quickly went to the forest and brought some herbs. The old man helped to put the herbs on Shankar’s wounds. After some time, Shankar got well. All were very happy that they were able to help each other. If you help others, then they will also help you.

Traditional food such as Guilin Rice Noodles, Snail Rice Noodles, Rolled Rice Noodles（卷筒粉）can be found around most streets of Guangxi, which is in South Central China.

The famous snack Snail Rice Noodles is also called luosifen in Chinese. Luosifen is usually sold at roadside stands（路边摊）in night market in Guangxi. It is cooked easily and tastes good! The dish is made up of rice noodles boiled and served in soup made from river snails and pork bones which are cooked for hours.

The food was listed as part of Liuzhou’s intangible cultural heritage（非物质文化遗产）in 2008 and became popular after being introduced in the program A bite of China（舌尖上的中国）in 2012.

Since then, luosifen restaurants have developed quickly across the country. Many restaurants have been set up in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong. It is becoming a popular snack at home and abroad. It’s said that 28.4 million bags of luosifen were sold on Taobao last year, becoming the most popular snack in the online market. It was also one of the best-selling foods during COVID-19 outbreak（爆发） in China.

Besides the traditional export （出口）markets, including the US, Australia, France, the food has also been sent to new markets such as Singapore and New Zealand.

Students from Taizhou Middle School, Jiangsu Province, experience farming during their labor（劳动）course. As we all know, the life skills like cooking and painting are important and should be taught as part of labor education.

On June3, 2020, the Ministry of Education （MOE）（教育部） gave a document（文件） showing the revised curriculum（修改后的方案）for senior high schools across the country. Labor education includes housework, school labor and community voluntary（志愿的）services and so on.

“Labor education must be carried out（实施）with the purpose to make the right view（观点）of the world, life and values and develop an interest in doing chores,” said Vice-Minister of Education Zheng Fuzhi.

According to China Youth Daily, the labor course will take six credits（学分）— the same as foreign language and physics. Voluntary service, as part of labor education, would take two credits. The MOE also asks schools to make sure 40 hours of voluntary service during the full three school years.

According to Xinhua, adding labor education was out of care that the country’s young people do too little housework and that they think labor jobs aren’t important. Because of a lot of school pressure, schools pay more attention to the course of education, and parents may think that the chores waste their kids’ time.

According to a survey, middle school students in China only spend 12 minutes a day on chores, compared with 72 minutes in the US, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France.

However, doing housework does not distract（使分心）young people. Instead, they are necessary for developing a strong working spirit, according to Julie Lythcott-Haims, the writer of How to Raise an Adult. “The earlier you started, the better...”, he said.
