The Spring Festival is the most important (最重要的) festival in China. There are many other traditional (传统的) festivals in China, too.

The Qingming Festival is in April. At the Qingming Festival, people hold a memorial ceremony for their ancestors (缅怀祖先).

The Dragon Boat Festival is usually in June. There are dragon boat races (龙舟比赛) in some places. People eat rice dumplings at this festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is in September or October. The family often get together at this festival. At night, they enjoy the moon and eat mooncakes.

The Double Ninth Festival (重阳节) is for old people. It is usually in October. People often visit their parents or grandparents on that day. They also like climbing mountains at this festival.

There are many festivals in China. The Spring Festival is the biggest one. It’s usually in February. Sometimes it’s in January. The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) is usually in June. Spring Festival is the lunar New Year (农历新年). It’s in January or February. The 2022 Spring Festival is on February 1. It’s the year of the Tiger.

When Spring Festival is coming, people are very busy, clean the house, cook Chinese traditional (传统的) food, make Spring Festival couplets (春联) and paper cuttings. On the eve of the Spring Festival, the family has a big dinner. There are lots of delicious (美味的) food. Jiaozi means reunion (团圆). People often put coins (硬币) and sugar (糖) in it. Fish, chicken, niangao and tangyuan are very nice. People also watch the Spring Festival Gala (春晚) that night. On the first day of the Spring Festival, people wear new clothes and say “Happy Spring Festival” to each other (彼此). Children often get hongbao from grandparents.

People in China all like the saying, “New year, new look.”

Hi! I'm Tom. I'm at Guangming school. Today is Tuesday. We have maths, Chinese and art classes. I love music. We have music class on Wednesdays. My music teacher is Ms Wang. She's short and thin. But she's very kind. I like kind teachers. Mr Young is our new PE teacher. He's tall and strong. He's a good football player. On Thursdays we have PE class. We have tomatoes and fish for lunch. I don't like tomatoes. Potatoes are my favorite food. After lunch, we have a reading class with a funny teacher, Mr Reed. My favourite day is Saturday. I often play football on Saturdays. I do my homework and have a cooking class on Sundays.
